Do these people not realize that a Burger King counter job is not worth $15 per hour?

Fuck them. Get a $15/hr job if you want $15/hr.
  • WebFire
    Yes, I'd like a #3 with a Coke.

That will be $14.50 at the first window.

    Go for it!

I like the way this could lead.

    a. Over-paid fast food workers.

    b. Leads to hilariously overpriced food.

    c. Leads to fast food places shutting down because people aren't paying $10+ for their shit sandwich and greasy fries.

    d. Leads to a potential lessening of America's obesity epidemic. Including said "workers", who are now out of work and on the "forced starvation" diet.

I really don't care. I rarely eat fast food and when I do its Chipotle which is price inelastic for me.

The reality is, I don't care about poor, stupid people.

Actually raises in the minimum wage aren't likely to change much as far as revenue for fast food places go. Not sure about $15 but when they were looking at the effects of $10.10 the decrease in demand was generally lower than the increase in price so nothing much changed except that the workers had a bit of extra money.

Sure, but the effects of $10.10 are way different than $15.

There are a lot of variables to be factored in before you can make that claim. I'm not even sure what study you derived this information from but I'm sure there are other studies out there that say the opposite and/or they have made a lot of assumptions.

The only logical thing we can derive is that prices for fast food will go up; by how much is unknown at the moment. The other logical thing we can derive is that as prices go up, people will look for substitutes that provide the same utility for a lower price point. The third thing we can logically derive is that at $15/hr the competition for a fast food position might push out the current people working those jobs since why hire a teenager or high school grad when there are millions of responsible, educated college grads that would love $15/hr.

Basically, eliminate minimum wage and let the market determine the proper wage to pay its employees.

    This.

...and another thing to consider is that there are a lot of other jobs in other areas that would similarly be affected....jobs that may pay $12 -14/hr that would also be pushed higher. LPN's, dental assistants, secretarial jobs..... You would see cost-push inflation the likes of which never has been seen in this country.
I don't know why liberals and democrats think they can ignore the laws of economics with impugnity.

You're working at fast food because:
You never put any effort into you future in high school
You shown very little ambition in the past, most like in the future also
You have made poor career and personal decision

now you want to be rewarded for your deeds.... As a potential drag on society...

Your only asset is to do drudge labor... Deal with it or change your life and rethink what important for your future and the future of others around you.... Work harder, smarter and with a vision to better yourself not take what you haven't earned

I don't know....working at McD's would really suck, at almost any wage. Better, I suppose, then some other jobs. I did a few mind-numbingly boring jobs back in high school/college. I have to believe God made some people stupid in order to be able to tolerate such menial jobs.

If you made me do an assembly job 500X a day...I'd go insane inside of two weeks.

or you would use it as motivation to formulate a plan and execute it to get a better job. That's what these jobs are for, and that is the proper way out of poverty, not failing to go to work, holding a sign, and shouting moronic slogans.

BTW, these aren't workers on strike, these are rent-a-mobs; the same ones the democrats and community activists use all the time .......... and I think they get about $8 hour to pretend to be striking fast food workers. Hilarious.

Reality is a lot of people simply don't have the brains for an office worker or trade. Democrats, however, will always exploit those people for votes claiming they deserve a higher standard of living.

Seems like you should care quite a bit since you own a McDonalds. Or is that just one of the shittier businesses you own and don't care much about?

I sold off my share of the franchise about a year ago. It was too much of a headache and it was hard to help out when I don't live anywhere near it.

Maybe they are just practicing good negotiating techniques. Industry offers $7/hr. They offer $15. Obama steps in and saves everybody with $10.10.

Truthfully though, if I were McDeez, I would buy an automated kiosk before paying an order taker $15/hr.

But workers and the poor are caught in a rock and a hard place right now. Fast food jobs are certainly not meant to raise a family on. I worked fast food when I was in high school. It is the first rung on the job ladder, and you are supposed to use that to move up to a better job, not stay there flipping burgers for 15 years crying about your pay.

Sadly for workers, there are not many alternatives to fast food jobs at the moment. The problem is that right now there is no economic recovery in America, despite what the news and the politicians tell us. U.S. has been in a deep recession since 2008, papered over with massive quantities of cheap liquidity. The problem is that none of the stimulus went to helping the people, it went straight to wall street and a re-inflation of the asset bubbles that caused the crash in the first place. Basically, it was a massive robin hood in reverse operation, that continues to this day.

There is also a major double whammy hitting the working class, as tech is now reaching the point to where unskilled workers aren't really needed. So it only makes sense to hire an unskilled worker to the point that their labor costs less than the price of a machine. If they got their wish of a $15/hr wage, or even the $10.10 that Mr. Obama is offering, I predict that their lot in life is going to get a whole lot worse.

People seem to forget that the real minimum wage is $0, which is what these people will be getting once the cost of their labor surpasses the cost of machines.
