Not allowed to be off the grid?

BGFalcons82Twatwaffles in charge. The government ALWAYS knows what is best for each and every American. Submit or die!!

jmogAnd that's what happens when liberals run the country. And just so I don't ruffle the feathers of the Obamaites on the website, I am talking both democrat and republican liberals.
-
queencitybuckeyeI don't see government's interest in matter like this.

Devils AdvocateAt first look, I was with you guys. I could think of no compelling reason to disallow someone for "being off the grid". There is not an abundance of articles on this particular subject, so there are a lot of unanswered questions.
I just want to know how she gets rid of her urine and shit. With no running water, she's not flushing the toilet (legally). Unless she has some dynamic way to legally get rid of her shit, she would be in violation of health laws.
Other than that, to each their own I guess. -

Maybe the same way as my wife and I do when we lose power and therefore the well pump? We fill jugs from the rain barrels and use them to fill the toilets.Devils Advocate;1554488 wrote:At first look, I was with you guys. I have no idea what she does, and your concern is valid. However, the argument is a little like arguing for prohibition because of drunk driving. -

If by liberal you mean authoritarians then I understand, but usually liberals are not authoritarians. The above article is clearly right wing authoritarianism. By the way Obama is clearly an authoritarian.jmog;1553542 wrote:And that's what happens when liberals run the country. Ultimately, this.Zombaypirate;1554541 wrote:If by liberal you mean authoritarians then I understand, but usually liberals are not authoritarians. The above article is clearly right wing authoritarianism. By the way Obama is clearly an authoritarian.
Modern-day self-professed "liberals" (the meaning has been bastardized at this point) are often authoritarian on certain elements of the general population's life, but anti-authoritarian on others.
The same is true of modern-day self-professed "conservatives" (see above), though the elements on which they are either authoritarian-leaning or anti-authoritarian-leaning are often different (though not completely opposite).
This story is a case of authoritarianism run amok. One cannot simply own his or her daily life, but seemingly must be compelled to rely on public institutions, at least to some degree. -
gutPower corrupts, and that pretty well describes the majority of career politicians in Washington.
I'm not convinced there's a deciding number of true conservatives staying home not voting. It's funny to me to hear how the Repub party is "moving to the right" when, IMO, they've actually been forced to move to the left to compete for the entitlement class that has become the marginal voter.
It's astounding, despite the numerous and blatant examples of govt inefficiency and waste, that many on both the right and left seem to think more govt and more spending is the solution to our problems. -
dwccrewCan't have people living off the grid, then the monopoly utility companies would go out of business and the politicians wouldn't be able to siphon money for their "campaign funds" anymore. More code enforcement!!!!!!
/end sarcasm -
gutOn a side note, article in the WSJ of how, after a few years of austerity pain, GB has seen it's normative growth recover and cranking out the equivalent (vs. the US) of 300k jobs a month.
And it's such an "outside the box" approach - 80% cut of spending and welfare, lower corporate and personal rates, and, ahem, 20% from mostly higher sales taxes.
