....making criminals of normal, usually law abiding citizens.... But in Colorado you can smoke hemp!Rep. Mitch Greenlick, from Portland, is sponsoring a bill that makes cigarettes a Schedule III controlled substance, meaning it would be illegal to possess or distribute cigarettes without a doctor's prescription.
Under the proposal, offenders would face maximum punishments of one year in prison, a $6,250 fine or both. -

I agree with you about smoking, but you've been paying for the out of shape slobs long before Obamacare, just like you pay for uninsured motorists on your automobile insurance.ccrunner609;1373241 wrote:Great idea.....with obamacare and fit people like me having to pay for the fat out of shape slobs healthcare....sure. Smoking is useless, it serves no good. -
gutHa! I've always said the second-hand smoke risk was 99% overhyped, overexagerated, even fabricated with the ultimate goal to make smoking illegal. Bit by bit and slowly but surely...Fear is a powerful thing to justify taking away freedoms.
Actually one of the more effective things the govt has ever been able to manage. -

WebFireI don't have a problem with smoking laws for the most part, but an outright "ban" on them is ludicrous.

Only in the upside down world of liberalism do we achieve such idiocy. -

sleeperI'd rather they just keep raising taxes on cigarettes. I love people that smoke for this reason alone. Thanks for the cash!

This. Based on the way I see people smoke, it's obviously not high enough yet. Simple economics says to raise it because they haven't hit the point where enough are quitting to where a tax increase would hurt.
I hate smoking, but selfishly enjoy them being treated as second class citizens while voluntarily shouldering tax burdens that would be spread out over all of us if it were not legal to smoke -

I know people who have NOTHING and they still smoke. I don't understand how they afford it.sleeper;1373471 wrote:I'd rather they just keep raising taxes on cigarettes. I love people that smoke for this reason alone. Thanks for the cash! -

I do not know if they are on welfare. The guy works sporadically and he does not like his wife to work. (meaning as long as I've known them she has never had a job.) They move rather frequently because I don't think they pay their rent and their cars are always broke down and they can't afford to fix them. But they both smoke.sleeper;1373641 wrote:You really don't know? Ever heard of welfare?

I bet they are on food stamps. It's honestly really easy to get on food stamps these days; most of the time they don't even check your income level. I'd be willing to bet money that with my lavish salary I could probably walk into the aid office and come out of it with an EBT card.FatHobbit;1373650 wrote:I do not know if they are on welfare. If they just surround themselves with children when they sign the anti-smoking bill, that will justify their actions.majorspark;1373217 wrote:But if it will save one life aren't we obligated to try? -

Time to tax the abortionists; we are obviously not taxing the baby killers enough yet, as they continue to ruin the health of the innocent unborn.

Well mine at least isn't blind political hate. Mine's more of a personal issue (family member has had 2 heart attacks before age 55 and hasn't even tried to stop)QuakerOats;1374059 wrote:Time to tax the abortionists; we are obviously not taxing the baby killers enough yet, as they continue to ruin the health of the innocent unborn.
