  I agree. Let's reduce the size of the general corps. We can start with our union thug-loving Commander-in-Chief.

  The golf one is kinda dumb. Because while the military pays to build them on every base, you don't play for free. For my wife's rank (0-2), I pay $36 plus cart fee of $10. Take out the ocean views and its no different then courses back home.
  Klipper on the marine base I pay about $50. Views on that course are incredible. But they're making money. You'll need to call almost 2 weeks ahead to get a tee time.

  Military spending needs cut. Big time. It's pretty simple. Cut military spending by ~40% immediately. That would take us back to 2003 military spending (~$400b).

  Maybe not IMMEDIATELY, but over 3-4 years I'd agree. $400B sounds about right, too.
  
  And, in general, looking the other way on padded govt contracts, subsidies, etc.. is a huge problem for the military as well as those on the Hill.

  The best way to appear as though you have balls without having to actually put your life at risk is to support absurd military spending. Unlikely Washington will touch it.

  So let me get this straight...the golf courses are profitable because the enlisted people that we pay, provide housing for, etc...pay a decent fee and have the courses booked? So then one way to make them MORE profitable would be to raise the course prices and then pay our troops more?

  Yeah. I meant start making cuts immediately and work down to $400b over the next couple years. I guess my first post doesn't really read that way.

  If you don't have perks for a job that asks you to put your life on the line, then why would anyone join? There's sacrifices in being military too.

  I don't think they are overpaid or anything. I'm just laughing at you claiming the courses are profitable when it's just money passed from one hand to another.

  Yes there need to be cuts in the military budget. But with the whole sequestration thingy, the military is the only department that will actually experience real spending cuts next year. Every other department, agency, bureaucracy, etc., will only at best see reductions in the rate of automatic spending increases.
  
  Add to that the fact that defense takes up 18% of the federal budget, and you can see why there's a whole lot of other things driving our deficits.

  and who we have the least faith in, who scrapes the bottom
