Why Did Romney and the GOP Lose this Election?
-
ernest_t_bassGibby, pls... I ask that you don't come on here and say, "This is why Obama won!" What were some of the main reasons that you feel the GOP and Romney LOST the election, and what were some of the things they could/should have done better?
I personally just don't feel that Romney was the right person. I think the days of the "old white guy" for the GOP are over, and least if the party wants to see a transformation. Someone said in another thread that the 2016 nominee better be latino or a woman, and I tend to agree. -
JU-ICEJust my opinion, they allowed an election that should have been about the economy to become a social issues election. If they learn anything, it should be that they need to open the tent to socially liberal republicans/Independents and not simply turn people because they do not lean right on every issue.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeI don't think that a woman or minority (of any sort) will work - the Left will just attack them like they did to Palin, Cain or Rubio (correctly or incorrectly).
I posted this on another thread, but Romney's 47% comment, although politically became a liability, is ultimately true. We have so many folks not paying taxes (at least not federal), not being productive, dependent on the government that it is a miracle that anyone wishing to balance our budget or otherwise curb spending is a miracle. We're a country where the inmates are now running the asylum, and borrowing and spending our way into oblivion that all sense of fiscal sense is out the proverbial window. Who cares about social issues? What do you want, abortion on demand or an economy that provides you with a job? -
Devils AdvocateI think all you need to go into the kitchen and smack your wives. It was women that turned this election.
Some how they got the idea that they need to have control over your uterus and vagina.
Sure, they talk a good game and say all the right things about those nasty baby killing liberals. But give them 5 minutes of privacy and a voting booth and WHAM! The stupid little cunnies stab you in the back by voting for libs that have this idea of personal choice and control of thier girlie parts.
Then they come home and make you a sammich and say "of course I voted a straight Republican ticket honey, Can I get you another beer and fresh batteries for your remote. Hannity is going to be on in 5 minutes." -

thank you for a demonstration of some of the attitudes that will make the the republicans a rapidly diminishing minority party. keep it up.Manhattan Buckeye;1315022 wrote:I don't think that a woman or minority (of any sort) will work - the Left will just attack them like they did to Palin, Cain or Rubio (correctly or incorrectly).

Raw Dawgin' it96% of blacks voted for Obama.

MoldyDogThis was an historic election. The lies, deceit, and small mindedness of the Republican far right lost it. From immigration, women's issues, monetary policy, healthcare etc. they were just plain wrong according to the majority of American people.
The first black President won re-election, regardless of the small-minded birthers, and those that would obstruct in any way.
We are also seeing breaks in other areas. Colorado and Washington approve the use of recreational marijuana, just like ending alcohol prohibition.
The people of Maryland are the first to approve same sex marriage by a vote of the people.
Historic. -

Maryland also approved for illegals aliens to pay in state tuition to go to college. Just because it's a vote by the people doesn't mean it's a smart one.MoldyDog;1315027 wrote:This was an historic election. The lies, deceit, and small mindedness of the Republican far right lost it. Also a wise position. As I mentioned in my original post the right is wrong on immigration issues.Raw Dawgin' it;1315028 wrote:Maryland also approved for illegals aliens to pay in state tuition to go to college. Just because it's a vote by the people doesn't mean it's a smart one.
Anyone who contributes, even in a small way, should be allowed to stay. -

Really? It's wise to let people come here illegally? Clearly if they have a job then they're not paying taxes because it's not even legal for them to be working. And if they're illegal i doubt their family is legally living here. So they get to pay in state tuition and take the place of a tax paying family? Legal immigration is one thing, illegally living, working, and getting an education in this country is bullshit.MoldyDog;1315030 wrote:Also a wise position. bases_loadedThis time next 4 years they will have created enough government dependents that even Hillary running as a republican couldn't win.

I thought about applying for food stamps. With all these government handouts i might as well hop on the bandwagon. Why should i work when the government will pay my way?bases_loaded;1315032 wrote:This time next 4 years they will have created enough government dependents that even Hillary running as a republican couldn't win. -

America has always been the land of opportunity. We should embrace that, not limit it. If we had decent immigration policies they wouldn't be here illegally.Raw Dawgin' it;1315031 wrote:Really? Your arguement is the same one the KKK used 100 years ago. -

So they're too lazy to become legal citizens? I'm a first born in this country. My father and grand parents came here legally, became citizens, paid taxes, and voted.MoldyDog;1315035 wrote:America has always been the land of opportunity. We should embrace that, not limit it. My argument is not the same. -

Immigrants don't get food stamps either. Most of them work damn hard at the crap jobs they do.Raw Dawgin' it;1315033 wrote:I thought about applying for food stamps. With all these government handouts i might as well hop on the bandwagon. Why should i work when the government will pay my way?
I think you were the one last night who said you should just quit working and live off the government dole. Quit threatening it and do it then.
Either that or shut up about it.
And it is the exact same arguement the KKK used a hundred years ago. Look it up. -

I don't live off the government because I have the ability to work and drive to make something of myself. Being here illegally means you shouldn't get any benefits from tax payers. I don't care how hard they work, they're taking money under the table from unemployed people who need it and would pay taxes on it.MoldyDog;1315040 wrote:Immigrants don't get food stamps either. I have no respect for people who abuse the government handout system either. -

The interesting about this post (even if it is sarcastic) is how condescending it is towards women. Does anyone really think most women vote based on "free" contraceptives, abortion on demand (in my experience most women have trouble trying to get pregnant), and the general attitude that women care about nothing but their "lady parts."Devils Advocate;1315023 wrote:I think all you need to go into the kitchen and smack your wives. It is condescension. So women don't care about foreign policy, about tax policy, about debt and spending policy, about policies that affect them, their children and their spouses? It is all about reproductive policy. Wow. -

Besides, the thead is about why Romney and the GOP lost the election. The overwhelming support that Latinos provided the Democrats prove my point not yours. So stuff it. -

It proves that Latinos like government handouts, staying in this country illegally, and not having someone deport them. You mad bro? Maybe you'll lose your job to an illegal who makes less, and pays no taxes. I'm sure you'd be totally cool with that. You ok with shipping jobs overseas too?MoldyDog;1315049 wrote:They don't live off the government either. FLASH...They also have the ability to work and drive to make something of themselves, too.

Not mad at all. Just tired of debating with someone who's ideas were proven wrong years ago. I don't do the kind of work that could easily be done by an undocumented alien, anyway(at least not for pay). Not generally OK with shipping jobs offshore either. In fact, I think our tax policy should prohibit it in favor of creating jobs here.Raw Dawgin' it;1315052 wrote:It proves that Latinos like government handouts, staying in this country illegally, and not having someone deport them. Another thing that Republicans were wrong about. -
TiernanNot a huge secret...the Far Right (which Romney was part of, don't let anybody fool ya...) is much scarier to intelligent moderate Americans than an educated black guy.

I think it is important to establish why we have borders in the first plce. It seems to me that there are a large number of people that are unsure why borders do, and even should, exist.Raw Dawgin' it;1315031 wrote:Really? It's wise to let people come here illegally? Latinos that are here illegally are unable to vote so your argument is bunk.Raw Dawgin' it;1315052 wrote:It proves that Latinos like government handouts, staying in this country illegally, and not having someone deport them.
