  The RNC would be wise to heed Gingrich, because he is spot on. We need to focus less on the left and more on ourselves and crafting a broad based message that Americans can get behind. Bush missed a huge opportunity in 2004 to cement center right government by focusing on narrow issues designed to appeal to the base, rather than win the larger battles for America's heart. The swing margin of the electiuon voted for Obama because they wanted a change from Bush, not a change in the way government intersects our lives. We need to get back to the principles of 'The Contract'......................smaller less intrusive government that facilitates rather than hinders personal responsibility and growth, balanced budgets, etc.

  I have always liked Newt for the most part. Now, I don't know. He doesn't seem like the same man anymore. In the election last month, he backed the liberal "republican" over the conservative candidate in New York. She then dropped out and endorsed the Democrat. It is things like that make me think that maybe he isn't that great.

  ^^^That's a push...because you can't build unity by dumping your allies just because their not in total agreement with your philosphy. It's one thing if you have a majority to spare...it's another thing if you're scrapping for bodies. The question becomes are you a Republican first or a conservative? When Newt was Speaker, they were one and the same....hopefully they will be again. The latter Bush II years have taken the party off course and off message. That has to be rebuilt and the party needs to rebuild it's identity.

  That is where the problems start though. Politicians start parting party before ideals. That is how we get huge spending and needless programs just because they are following the "party" line.

  If you haven't watched the videos that were linked ...do so. I don't think you can judge Newt from that one incident, and I really haven't heard his reasoning on it...and it probably doesn't matter anyway. What does matter is that the party stand for what America wants. You don't have to focus on ripping the left...the country doesn't want their agenda anyway. What they want is a plan they can support and get behind.

  I will watch them. I have always liked the guy. That just rubbed me the wrong way. There is another reason that he bothered me though. He co-wrote a book a few years ago. It was to be the first part of a 3 part series dealing with WWII. He never finished after writing the first book. It was really good and I want more. lol
