Lazy No Good Boomers!

I'm not sure what you're getting at ... that Boomers are harder working?

One could just as easily chalk this up to many Boomers re-entering the work force because their retirements have taken a hit in this economy, coupled with the fact that people are living longer.

    The article itself says:
But Gen Y is taking a different approach. Frequently more tech-savvy and entrepreneurial in their thinking, 20- and early 30-somethings aren't concerned about being loyal to one company, and instead expect to work for many employers during their lifetimes.

What I am getting at is a little bitch slap to all those complaining about our generation creating the overexspansive welfare state. The fact is...our generation has not had it as easy as the youngsters on here would have you believe. We are the sole reason that the national debt has soared...don't you know?

Many believe that we are all riding into the sunset of our lives basking in the glory and sitting on mountains of gold filled money bags.

Not the case...at all...as this link clearly indicates.

It is true that we are living longer, but not longer in comparison to other well developed countries. In addition, living longer does not equate to higher quality of life. Most will work into their seventies...a far cry from the last generation that were able to hang them up at a ripe age....with huge pensions to subsidize social security.

Unless you're a banker, a CEO, a gobblement worker, teacher or vet, better stay on the bow flex machine and keep it together. No free soup for you.

No, our generation will waddle our aching bones back to work...5 days a week...until we die. Because the private side of the welfare state went pfffft.

Not that I personally am complaining mind you. We can't afford the entire generation to feed off the government tit. But it's a double edged sword really. The idea was for the Boomers to hang em up and lighten up the ridiculously poor job market for all the smart assed young whippersnappers whose claim to fame is adeptness at video games. Well. that's not going to happen.

Ah. Nah, the Boomers as a whole are not lazy ... at least no more than subsequent generations. We all have the portion of our generation we'd rather not claim because they ARE lazy and/or entitled.

Now, the Boomer generation HAS been the one to govern lately, but I'm sure we'll screw ourselves in our own little way, as well.

Boomers aren't retiring because of a combination of a shit economy or not saving money to retire, and since they aren't retiring (combined with the bad economy) there aren't many jobs to be had for the younger generation, or anyone for that matter.

It's not exactly rocket science, but just let footwedge keep patting himself on the back anyway.

This is not a very good argument for boomers not creating the welfare state that has emerged.

I agree with o-trap. Us boomers are no more lazy nor overachieving than any most any other.

Exactly. I don't know how anyone can interpret that article the way Footwedge did.
