Seriously, I don't have a problem with legalizing marijuana. I did enough of it in my younger years to understand what it does and what my limitations were while smoking it. Cocaine and some of the others I can't offer an opinion, because I just never went there. I quit smoking pot mainly because of my employment and drug testing, what you would call economic deterrence. Now that I'm retired I consider it, partly because I don't have to piss in a jar anymore and partly because it might offer some relief from the RA which gets more painful each year.

I also believe that if you make it legal it takes a big chunk out of the cartels.

Try telling that to the 400,000 Americans that visit the ER room annually from cocaine abuse. I admit, as much as I think cocaine is a life ruiner for hundreds of thousands, it should definitely be legalized...as should heroin.

The gubmint can scrape off a hefty rake from sales and open up more centers for treatment.

Now...I'm also in your box that many can handle coke recreationally. Many cannot.

    2. Mexico seems like just your kind of place Belly. low social spending, low rates of taxation, large gap between the rich and the poor, etc.
Should we also consider legalizing the child sex slave business on the same grounds?

No. Surely you might see the distinction between the two? Children are victims in the child sex slave trade. Non-Addicted Adults consuming mind-altering substances under their own free will aren't harming any individual persons nor whatever morals the state has left.

Hey if Tony Stark/Sherlock Holmes had paid Alan Shore/Robert California his money on time, he wouldn't have had to put on those kneepads. :)

Sure they are: they are playing into the hands of the violent dealers and cartels -- padding their pockets and giving them power over millions of innocent, and not-so-innocent victims; they are ultimately going to ruin their families, with the kids paying the price; they are ultimately going to cost society and the taxpayers more money.

But what the hell, right ??
