School funded food is such a waist of money. Most kids dont eat their lunches anyway. I see hundreds of servings of veggies and fruits on a daily basis hit the trash.

With half the students getting a free lunch (paid by taxpayers), schools should institute a policy that all kids that are on a free and reduced lunch program should be made to sit and eat all of it.
It's a big clusterfuck. A mix of problems with all the interests we have in school lunches (Con Alma, etc) as well as probably shitty ways of deciding who gets free/reduced lunches. Then you add in that we serve our kids absolute fucking garbage. It's embarrassing. And I'm not just talking about "this tastes bad" but more "this is fucking unhealthy". We can do better.

But even I don't understand why a state agent was looking at a fucking packed lunch. Unless he was just looking at them to see what kids were bringing. IE: "Let me see what you have there, ah, that wouldn't meet our standards because of x and x". That's the only acceptable scenario I can think of for that.

I'll be happy to look at anything you present, even in your fractured excuse for the English language, that shows anything I stated to be factually incorrect.

Another fabulous example of why We The People need to begin the rapid defunding of government.

Not any that have anything to do with the situation being discussed.

Our school sent home a form to sign to have your child tested. You could opt out of the test and I did. They are my children, keep them safe as possible on the bus, and at school and present them with the material needed to pass each grade level and stay out of everything else in my childs life.

This is scary, someone went through the kids lunch and denied them eating it. I would be furious if I were these parents. A government ran agency going into my kids personal property!
Little Danny;1086542 wrote:Agreed. I have no problem for these agents to ensure the food being served at the school cafeteria are up to snuff, but they have no right to search a packed lunch from home. If a parent wants to pack their kid a twinkie, that is their choice.
Not that I agree with the agency being able to dictate what the kid can and can't bring as a packed luncch, schools absolutely have the right to search kids personal property when they are on the school premise. Student's rights are not protected when in school. This is why schools don't need search warrants to search a student's locker or backpack, etc. Lunches are probably viewed the same way.

That being said, I think the reasoning behind this particular search is asinine.

I have no problem with them checking Johnny or Sally's brown bag if they suspect they are packing a pistola, I just don't want them going through it because they suspect it has candy bar.

    Exactly.

honestly school lunches around here most days of the week are just barely a step above prison food. although this year they did add a very limited item salad bar that gives at least one option for the kids who would want something healthy.
  • ernest_t_bass
Our school lunches are pretty good, and we have a pretty sweet salad bar.

Great post. You have nothing to add to the debate so you go the name calling route.

Agreed. I just thought you were implying that they had no right to search the student's personal property.
