Even the IRS Can't Be This Delusional...Or Can It?

  Does the IRS really believe it's "...the foundation for all that our nation is capable of..."?
  
  I realize this is a recruitment statement, but does anyone else out there think there's something unsettling about this claim?

  Well in their defense, it wouldn't be much of a sales pitch to say "Come work for the IRS, and have 80% of the country wish you were fucking dead."

  To be honest.... as few dealings that I've had with agents, most have been pretty fair and helpful. I imagine that might not be the case with true scofflaws.

  I like it, but wouldn't it only be like 50% since only 50% actually pay federal taxes?

  It depends on how you interpret what they mean. They could mean let's fund people that are on welfare, social programs or it could mean let's fund infrastructure, defense type things or it could mean a combo of both. I'm not sure what they mean, but I think the statement is open to interpretation.

  The IRS has but one purpose: Collecting federal taxes. They have NOTHING to do with building bridges....or funding entitlement programs for that matter.
  
  Laying claim to making our nation "a better place" is a stretch if not laughable. I'd like to know how tax collection is the "foundation for all that our country is capable of"??

  You are correct, but that is precisely what the taxes they collect go towards, hence why they probably posted that statement.

  We could be approaching a very interesting and dangerous dynamic...If and when we move past OVER half of Americans paying no federal income tax (excl. SS and Medicare), this becomes a pretty powerful election tool. Because at the end of the day, I think the vast majority of people will vote with their wallet easily trumping all other issues they care about. So when half of Americans look at a candidate that might result in an increase in taxes (an easy call when your comparison is 0) or a reduction in entitlements/benefits, most by default will choose the other candidate. Dems/Liberals are probably salivating over that - only the far right (relatively small percentage) would seem to care more about their family values and religious beliefs (to the point of irrationality, in many cases) to not follow this pattern.
  
  I'd love to see how many people lamenting the demise of American manufacturing and jobs have significant purchases of imported goods. You can walk into the parking lot of any Big 3 manufacturer and see a not-insignificant number of foreign and competitor cars. In most cases it's because they haven't been there long enough to take advantage of their discount plan for a new car, but there's someone who will become a strong proponent of protecting American jobs eventhough they didn't practice what they now preach after becoming indoctrinated.
  
  Same could be said for many of the supporters of the Buffet rule. These people all talk about WANTING to pay more, and while I'm not questioning their sincerity, I'd bet nearly 100% employ tax accountants and engage in tax management strategies (a given if they pay a tax accountant and/or financial adviser), much less pay more (fully within their right) if that was what they truly believe. Big part of my disdain for these class warfare arguments is I know so many are as full of as much hypocritical BS as anyone else. And it's really hard for me to stomach the moral/intellectually superiority preached from their bully pulpit when I know they're full of it. The vast majority who have too much ARE usually greedy (at least selectively), and the vast majority who don't ARE usually just jealous. No one has the high road and everyone is full of it.
