  I don't need to refute it. All anyone has to do is click the link and do a little reading to see the bill in question is 17 years old, and that the full text of the bill isn't even available...only a vague summary. Note it also includes the stipulation that the requirements of Chapter 228 of US Code Title 18 must be satisfied. But yeah...it's obvious that he thinks it's cool to just off anyone with 2 oz. of weed.

  Basically just lays out the things that must be satisfied for the death penalty. If I'm not mistaken Newt would have had smuggling more than 2 oz of marijuana (and various amounts of other drugs) added to the things that make you eligible for the death penalty.
  
  Even if it probably would not have been used except in cases where maybe the person committed other crimes the idea that it's acceptable ever to execute someone for smuggling drugs doesn't sit well with me.

  Yes I read 18 USC Chapter 228 (only posted it in that form to see if I remember how to cite that right from business law).
  
  You're right unless the law I posted would have sought to change something about it which I don't know if it did or not. So we'll just say you're right. But if it never had a chance of actually being used why even bother with the law (perhaps that's why the committees never let it go further).

  Perhaps that's the case. My point of refuting your original post was your clear intent to create the perception that if Johnny college student was busted coming in with 3 oz of weed, that Newt would strap him to Old Sparky personally.

  I meant "cool" in the parlance of our times to mean that it's acceptable in anyway to execute someone for smuggling drugs. I disagree with that idea even if it isn't one that would have been enforceable.

  What percentage of the delegates have been chosen once Florida is over? Running out of time would indicate that a decent number of delegates would be set by then.

  Going back to something I heard a long time ago...Candidates don't quit running for office, they run out of money. As long as Paul has cash on hand for running ads, delivering his viewpoint letters, and finding those to carry his water, he can be a candidate as long as he wants to be one. I heard someone say he's going to stay in it as long as he can, so that he'll have a forum at the convention to discuss his ideas. Makes sense to me.
  
  I would also offer that as long as he remains a candidate for the Republican nomination, he'll be a Republican and not a 3rd party coronator of our Dear Leader. I can't see him staying around until the convention and being a part of it only to declare moments later his own 3rd party Evel Knievel Snake River Canyon launch into the rocks.

  As BG said...he'll be in it as long as the money holds out. That said, if he doesn't start building some momentum over the next few weeks, then he's done. Unless he goes into Super Tuesday with at least a couple wins and/or very strong seconds in the next 7 contests, then POTUS Paul ain't happening.
  
  Thus far, he's showing no sign of improving his standing in any of the 7 upcoming states...he's still running between 4-13% in all of them.

  I will say this, I want Paul to win more than anything. I realize the odds are stacked against him. I do believe the repubs need him to win though. If he runs third party, endorses johnson, runs as johnsons vp. His followers will go wherever paul goes and Obama will win. Pauls loyalty is to the movement not the party and they will have adopt some of his ideas to keep him.

  His supporters will go with the message, not necessarily Paul. If Ron was Romney's VP I would be voting for Gary Johnson or Vermin Supreme.
