Of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1%

Again....as a couple, my wife and I earn more[B/] than 90% than others do in our county. And we pay only 7% on federal tax. We do pay a chunk on payroll tax...what a shame.

WTF does your county have to do with it? That's not a very good premise to base an argument on.

I'd gladly pay the same percentage as you if that equates to "ponying up".

He's posted his income on here. If that's the 90th percentile in his county, there's a decent number of people named "Cooter" and "Junior" in said county.

Aren't the "money bagger types" already paying a huge disproportionate share of all taxes?

I made a boatload of money last year, and I'm "retired". After all was said and done I paid quite a bit in Federal income tax. Fortunately I had enough withheld to give me a whopping $7.00 refund.

I just had to cough up almost $4K in taxes because last year, I needed nearly 100% of my income to get by.

It's days like these that I most hate unnecessary spending (and the taxes I have to pay to cover it).

The really sad part is most people don't even think about the 14.4% or whatever of FICA coming off the top (even though half is the employer match, that's still really your taxes). Depresses me to think I don't start actually taking home money from my weekly check until Wednesday.

Argument? I simply stated that I paid 7% on federal taxes. Now I do have some really good deductions. 2 kids= 4 exemtpions. At $3650 a pop...that's over 14 grand. Throw a little standard deduction into the mix and then wowzer.... $1500 tax credit (not deduction...credit) for putting in a high efficiency furnace...and another 4K deduction for junior's tuition.

Last year we received 7 grand back from uncle Sam. Overpaid due to some unusual circumstances. Finished up my taxes Sunday....have another $4200 coming to us this year. Wifey is lovin it.

Which is fine...and feel free to send me some if you see fit. ;)

I just didn't get the reason for the mention of where you live...the proper comparison is against those of your same income range. Geography shouldn't enter into it.

Geography does play a role in it. Has to do with standard of living. Queen City Buckeye and his cuz Manhattan Buckeye probably pay $1800 a month for their 2 room apartment. What we make as a coupkle provides more purchasing power than those big financial gurus...just sayin...LOL.

Where I live....a 2900 square foot home will cost the taxpayer a whopping $2280 per year in property taxes. Not bad eh? Nothing wrong with having "Cooter" as your next door neighbor either...he mows his grass and pulls his weeds as well as anybody.

Here's where the tax system royally screws (no kiss) single taxpayers. All these "family friendly" tax breaks that end up costing everyone. I say let's eliminate all those tax breaks and perhaps we'll see less social problems because there will be less kids, less divorce (or marriages) and we get the added plus of a greener planet because there are fewer around using up the resources.

Did that sound eco-nazi enough to be real? :)

I do hate the whole redistributing the wealth thing -- even when it includes middle class families.

I'd prefer a fair tax setup.

Some people don't have to pay the full amount, particularly government workers that were in the system before the 1986 and 1991 reforms. My Dad spent most of his career not paying any FICA.
