Hey, one of the premium channels has been showing Conspiracy Theory lately. Which one of you fits the Jerry Fletcher role?
Why do you think someone who actually wants the rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States is some looney conspiracy theorist (I know I'm not the latter, the former is for others to decide)? -

I'm not a subscriber to the slope you just mentioned. However, this is an authority that no governing entity needs, yet they are pursuing it. Personally, I think that's a problem. I don't like any governing body having any unnecessary power.stlouiedipalma;734488 wrote:We lost a lot of that with the Patriot Act. I'd suggest reading Network Neutrality, Broadband Discrimination by Tim Wu if you have more than a passing interest in the subject.O-Trap;734288 wrote:I disagreed with them when they went after Eminem back in the early- and mid-2000s. I don't agree with their Fairness Doctrine proposals.
But I like the Broadband Policy Statement they put out a few years ago (2007, maybe), provided it is interpreted properly. If not interpreted properly, however, it could be more of what we're seeing.

One cannot be the bolded text while at the same time supporting the Patriot Act. Which is what many Republicans and Democrats claim to be. Looney, mal-intended, pick your label but it's definitely one of those two.queencitybuckeye;734492 wrote:Why do you think someone who actually wants the rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States is some looney conspiracy theorist (I know I'm not the latter, the former is for others to decide)? -
Thread BomberThe funnyest part of this is that you all against this ...... and the ACLU is suing on your behalf.
Better pony up some cash and get your card boys! -

I don't support the Patriot Act, never did. -

Rest assured, I'm not against the ACLU as an institution. I disagree with many things they end up doing, but I try to take things like that on a case-by-case basis.Thread Bomber;734669 wrote:The funnyest part of this is that you all against this ...... and the ACLU is suing on your behalf.

If anyone would care to look up past posts by me, they'd see that I've always been VERY critical of the Patriot Act. -

Wasn't saying anyone did but that there are a lot of those on the national political scene who talk all day about the constitution and yet happily sign their names of legislation like the Patriot Act. -

Like the President. I think I remember something about repealing the Patriot act that got him elected. Not surprised that it's still around. Ever since 9/11, no politician will ever repeal the Patriot Act on the off chance there is another attack. That politician would get absolutely roasted after the fact for being weak on national defense. They'd rather stomp all over the constitution instead of risking the chance off being blamed and voted out of office. -

Which is why I get upset when a lot of the Republicans (and I mean the politicians here not voters) bitch about how they want the constitution upheld in regards to healthcare, etc yet are perfectly happy introducing and supporting bills like the Patriot Act that violently rape the constitution.tk421;734952 wrote:Like the President. Ty WebbWhy aren't any of you bothered when they do this they suspect of terriorism without a warrent

People ARE bothered to be considered as a suspect of terrorism and to be searched without a warrant. This was stated by almost everybody in the TSA thread, for example. This is HIS law now, just as much as it was W's. -

But he is the figurehead of the country right now and as such, certainly isn't doing anything about it. I'm fairly certain that Obama must have known a little something something about this. Have they (administration) spoken out against this, yet? I don't know for sure - why I'm asking.
I don't know of anybody who hasn't complained about the Patriot Act in one form or another, therefore and besides, bitching about Bush. Bush is no longer holding that seat, somebody else is.
I've never given Barry a pass on this...ever....and if you and Writer review my few posts over the past month...you won't see me sticking up for this garbage president.....but your "mmmm...mmmm. Barack Hussein Obama.." hit a nerve with me...given the fact that this unprecedented shitting on the constitution was started by all Republicans. Just because it happened 7 years ago....doesn't mean we should all forget how that group wreaked havoc on our way of life and what we stood for.
If one is non partisan....then one never forgets who started what...and the deleterious consequences that we now live with. -

This current turd may have originated with the republicans, but federal politicians began taking shits on the constitution long before the republican party came into existence.Footwedge;735092 wrote:I've never given Barry a pass on this...ever....and if you and Writer review my few posts over the past month...you won't see me sticking up for this garbage president.....but your "mmmm...mmmm. If you believe this, you shouldn't have defended him -- no matter HOW the law originated. Obama and an entirely Democrat Congress could have repealed that in a heartbeat without any real opposition, and they sat in their own shit and did nothing.
Much like with the last budget -- and now they're trying to blame Republicans for not doing anything. -

And we blame them for that all the time. But that doesn't mean we have to forget the assholes who first implemented this crap.Writerbuckeye;735196 wrote:If you believe this, you shouldn't have defended him -- no matter HOW the law originated. CenterBHSFanNobody is saying to forget that this originated with Bush. Not even a little bit.
The problem is that to keep holding on to the Bush-blame when there's no consequences anymore (he's gone) is ... well... habitual at this point. NOW there's somebody else in office who is just continuing it and it shouldn't be ignored just because of origins.
Meaning that there are now two Presidents/administrations to blame and hold in contempt. BOTH are now accountable and should be held as such, not just one. They walk hand in hand. One is guilty for origins, one is guilty for continuation.
Of course Obama is the focus now, because he IS the focus now. That's all I'm saying. -

I'm glad that you disagree with me, Footie. Wouldn't be much of a discussion if everybody felt the same about all things! -
O-TrapLet's put it this way.
Bush laid this turd.
Obama decided to keep it around.
Both are equally at fault, because both thought it a good idea, apparently.
Let's be honest now, shall we? Neither of these two have truly been concerned with the rights of their constituents. It's enough to make one vomit to hear the bi-partisan back-n-forth when subjects like this come up.
Somehow, in a two-party race, both have managed to lose. -

We are talking about a very specific topic here. The Patriot Act. I won't even bring up the shit canning regarding the "writ of habeous corpus"....one of the most important part of our justice system. Oh....and that was when the last guy was in power as well. We didn't torture people back then either. Maybe a new thread should be started.majorspark;735124 wrote:This current turd may have originated with the republicans, but federal politicians began taking shits on the constitution long before the republican party came into existence. -
