No doubt because he is a person of integrity, backbone, knowledge and wisdom ---- traits no longer present nor necessary in what has become of the left-stream media industry. -

I have no doubt about it. These biased, arrogant, and insulated buffoons still believe they have the power to control the collective American mindset. The MSM still fantasizes that we huddle around our TV sets and the news stands salivating like Pavlov's dog over their next round of profound enlightened liberal utterances.Writerbuckeye;641972 wrote:After a while, all you can do is shake your head and wonder what it's like in those newsrooms. All those like-minded "intellects" working hard to produce garbage like that night after night, and then no doubt having one big happy circle jerk after congratulating one another on a job well done.
The problem with their thinking is more and more Americans have come to realize that there are now plenty of other sources of information to be heard. They're feeling it in their ratings and their profit margins...and now they want the liberal politicians they supported to return the favor by dredging up bullshit like the "Fairness Doctrine" to protect their shrinking market share.
The MSM is an ultra-hypocritical bunch. They're all about lecturing us on the wisdom of socialist and liberal policies as long as it doesn't touch their own wallets. -
I Wear PantsYou could literally say exactly the same thing about Fox News and other programs/sites/newspapers that spew conservative talking points all day but somehow don't exist when people talk about the MSM.

True. Fox News has found a market niche' not satisfied by the traditional mainstream networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, NY Times, CNN, etc., etc. etc.I Wear Pants;642324 wrote:You could literally say exactly the same thing about Fox News and other programs/sites/newspapers that spew conservative talking points all day but somehow don't exist when people talk about the MSM.
And the interesting thing is Fox News not only competes against all these "options" but is kicking their collective asses. Now if I were a top-level exec in one of these "mainstream" networks I'd be asking myself "hmmmmmm....maybe Fox News is on to something. Perhaps we should reconsider our business plan?"
In all fairness, when ALL of these sources of news (including Fox News) begin to practice TRUE journalism by leaving out the political agendas and simply report the facts in a fair, balanced, objective, and professional manner we won't need to debate the issue. -
I Wear PantsSo it's a "market niche" when it's conservative bias and the end of the world when you see it as liberal bias?
-
I Wear PantsAnd if you look at it on a viewer basis Fox has many more viewers than the other networks so about the same amount of people are watching conservative skewed news as liberal skewed news. But you never see it put that way. It's all doom and gloom the commies are out to get you.

You have it all wrong. The MSM Collective is crying doom & gloom that one single network has skyrocketed past their once mighty empire and is kicking their ass at it.I Wear Pants;642328 wrote:And if you look at it on a viewer basis Fox has many more viewers than the other networks so about the same amount of people are watching conservative skewed news as liberal skewed news. The fact that Fox News has been so successful should be telling the "leadership" of the MSM that maybe...just maybe....there are folks out there who don't subscribe to their world-view.
When it comes down to it, the American 4th Estate should NOT be in the business of molding public opinion. They should be in the business of reporting events and the facts of the events and allow us to form our own opinions.
Again, when the networks and papers begin practicing true journalism, this will no longer be a debate. Meantime, thank God we now have alternatives like Fox News. -
I Wear PantsFox News is MSM.

On the commentary shows, yes. You can't compare Glenn Beck with Katie Couric/Dianne Sawyer/Brian Williams, who allegedly do the "straight news." When you do an apples to apples and compare Shep Smith/Brett Baier with Couric/Sawyer/Williams the difference is painfully obvious...and has been confirmed by study after study. -

The "market niche" is, simply, the truth. Most of The People have been clamoring for The Truth; there is not a lot of magic to it.believer;642325 wrote:True. Not even close.
The reach of the MSM via network news makes the cable numbers look puny by comparison. For instance, NBC News averages about 9 million viewers per broadcast, CBS around 7 million and ABC about 5 million -- give or take.
The highest rated program on a cable news network is O'Reilly at about 3 million viewers.
The networks still have, by far, the most impact on viewership as compared to cable. So their bias is much more far reaching than that of cable programming (I'm including all programs, not just news. If you don't include the commentators, the networks have probably 20 times the viewership of a regular cable news program). -

Why did you leave the journalism world?
I worked at a small daily newspaper for 8 years and earned basically nothing; was able to save nothing; and didn't have a good retirement program.
Those were the economic reasons.
When you work in a small town community news operation you basically get GREAT experience and low pay. It's without question the best teaching ground for any journalist. However, you also have a very high burnout factor because you end up working so many long hours.
I burned out and was tired of not having time to do things I wanted to do, and no money to do them. So I "sold out" (according to my fellow journalists) to the corporate world of media relations and marketing. It paid much better, actually had a retirement plan, and gave me a much better quality of life.
As it turned out, my decision was more than wise. My health took a very bad turn and I was ultimately forced to take an early retirement because of it. -

Thanks for sharing the details with us, and for being so open and honest. While it's obvious that you have a background in journalism, we never got to see some of the details or what prompted you to leave. I can relate to health issues, and sincerely hope your health is no longer a negative. -
WriterbuckeyeThanks for the kind words, louie. Unfortunately, the same health problems remain and some others have cropped up. Getting older truly sucks.

Little DannyThe MSM quickly refused to discuss the terrorism angle, but I do remember they quickly jumped on the theory he was stressed because he was getting ready to be deployed to Iraq (or maybe it was Afghanistan). Therefore, on one hand they wanted to wait before interjecting it was possibly an act of terrorism but on the the other, they had no problem speculating on the angle that suited their political rancor (that is, to twist that it was somehow Bush's fault because we were in this war to begin with).

As unfunny as your list was, mocking you would be redundant. -
