Governor Kasich

O-TrapTy Webb;662438 wrote:No....Republicans didn't give Strickland or Obama a grace period...why should Kasich be any different?
The Republicans were wrong to do so. It's wrong to say someone won't succeed or fulfill what they claimed they would before given an opportunity.
Now, if you want to contest what someone already says they're going to do, that's different. Claiming someone will fail/has failed to do something you agree is good without giving time to do it, though, is errant.
If the GOP does it, then the GOP is wrong to do it.
If the Democrats do it, the Democrats are wrong to do it.
If Libertarians do it, the Libertarians are wrong to do it.
If the Greenies do it, they're wrong to do it.
If Independents do it, they're wrong to do it. -

That is your view, not fact.
I agree with O Trap on this one. -
O-TrapIt's not that you can't disagree with ANYTHING before they have time. If they are saying they'll enact or support something you already disagree with, then have at it. When there was buzz about some of the things President (Senator at the time) Obama would do and support if elected, and I disagreed, I voiced that. It wasn't a projection of Obama's performance as a whole, as I had no idea what he would and wouldn't be able to do. It was a disagreement with those particular issues, regardless of who was backing them.
However, did I (or even COULD I) say with any certainty how his tenure as president would go, overall? No, because I had nothing to reference as a metric, since everything was yet to come to fruition. Could I guess? I suppose. Would it be anything more than a guess? Nope, and nothing I would do or say would change that without sufficient time to evaluate his ACTUAL time in office.
Same applies in any position, whether Federal government, chief officer in the private sector, or coach of a high school JV baseball team. -

WriterbuckeyeI must have missed where Strickland wasn't given a grace period. I seem to recall he was given a HUGE grace period because he followed a very corrupt Taft administration and people were more than willing to give him some leeway after taking office.
It was his own INEPTNESS that caused so many people (like me) to lose faith in him and realize he was in over his head. For me, taking porkulus dollars to help balance an ailing budget was the next to the last straw...and that damn "high speed" train was the last one.
In the meantime, I saw ZERO effort to try and turn around a very poor business climate in Ohio, and it resulted in several big players deciding to take their companies elsewhere.
No, it wasn't people not giving Strickland a chance that did him in: it was his own miserable record of failure, and his unwillingness to actually be a leader when the budget was under fire. -

The grace period never ended with Stickland. That is why he got 47% of the vote in this past election. People thought he was a nice guy who was handed Taft's mess. -

Bullshit. There was not a single state that did not take stimulus dollars. The financial crisis was the worst in my lifetime and since the great depression. Without what Bush, Obama and many of the other world leaders intervention, we would be looking at a collapse of catastrophic proportions. Of course that would have been fine with you right up until you lost everything you had. The business left Ohio for cheaper labor. Going to continue to happen until the trend reverses and it will in time. It always dose. Strickland had bad timing, that's the only reason he is not Governor today. You compare Ohio with the other states in distress and the numbers are better. -

WriterbuckeyeUsing the stimulus money to patch the budget shortfall and not be an active leader at fixing the problem (or at least attempting to) are two different issues for me. One shows laziness and the other a lack of leadership skills.

Well your way of letting the market "correct everything" would have been a major fail. Fortunately, what was needed was done. In a way it a shame people like you did not get to experience what you wished for. You need a little humble pie served to yourself. Just wait and see what happens in Ohio after that bozo gets finished with his term as Governor. -

Our state might not be so far in the hole the way it is now. We might be a little more independent and willing to venture into new areas. We might then have the finances to start fixing our infrastructure and investing in other technologies.Bigdogg;664943 wrote:Well your way of letting the market "correct everything" would have been a major fail. If that happens, you bet your ass I'm voting for him again! -
september63Shame on anyone either praising or bashing Kasich after 30 days in office. However, feel free to bash Strickland, his record spoke for itself.

He has had a terrible start already. He would have never won if he would have shown his true colors before the election. He will be a one term Governor and will have left the state worse then he found it. -
stlouiedipalmaAs I've stated before, I truly hope that Kasich succeeds and becomes the kind of Governor Ohio desperately needs. None of his predecessors (with the possible exception of Voinovich) were able to help Ohio, so I believe that he should be given time for his policies to take root. If, four years from now, he fails do do so the voters will let him know. Until then I feel that the naysayers should back off.
If he fails, however, I don't see any way in hell Ohio will be able to recover. It's very possible Kasich may go down in history as the man who killed Ohio. -

This defines pretty much every public official that has ever won a term in office through a smear campaign. -
