With repeal of DADT, will ROTC be reinstated at universities?

  Bill Kristol of The Weekly Standard brings up a good point to ponder. Many universities used the issue of gays in the military as reason to keep ROTC off campus. Now that the new law has been passed concerning gays in uniform, will the trustees, faculty and presidents allow ROTC back on campus?
  
  It's an interesting question. Something tells me that universities will just find another excuse to keep ROTC out. I hope I am wrong.

  I hope so. I've always been a fan of ROTC.

  Hopefully at universities where that was the only reason given for not having ROTC.

  I highly doubt they start adding them to campuses. I know a lot of the military right now aren't hurting for enlisted or officers.

  I didn't know they weren't on campuses. What campuses are they not in in Ohio?
  
  I know they have them at BGSU or at least when I was there and OU I think as well.

  Some more liberal "institutions of higher learning" (that deserves to be in parenthesis on this one) decided discrimination against gays was a good way to vent their anti-military views in a PC way, instead of just coming across as draconian and booting them off. You would think an "institution of higher learning" would favor a broad spectrum of teaching opportunities for students, including the military, but of course we know that this isn't the case.

  Any in Ohio? I know Miami, OSU, BGSU, and OU i think have programs.
  
  I know Harvard banned military recruiters due to DADT, but i don't know which ones got rid of ROTC solely because of DADT
  
  I think it was a stupid reason to get rid of it, if that is the case, and hopefully they'll right that wrong and reinstate it.
  
  Huge fan of ROTC. One of my best friends went through Navy ROTC at Miami, and i got to interact with them a great deal, it was a great program.

  I was in Army ROTC for two years at Kent State. If I had known then what I know now, I would have told them I'm gay and have gotten out of Vietnam that way. As it turns out, the draft lottery got me out. I really am gay, by the way, but at that time I was very much in the closet.

  That is stupid for college campuses to not let ROTC's be there.

  It was mostly "elite" universities like Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Penn, etc. I don't believe there were any in Ohio.

  I agree but also can't find an actual list of schools who kicked out the ROTC. Given that I started this thread I thought I'd try to find a list, but haven't had a lot of success other than the ones Kristol mentions in the article.

  My cousin was in ROTC airforce at Cornell but that was about 10 years ago, so I don't know if they still have it there. She did it for the scholarship money but ended up really enjoying it.

  well the military that is constantly deploying is hurting for both enlisted and officers. my battalion deployed understaffed both on the enlisted and officer side and i know several other friends who deployed in similar situations.

  Maybe the Army is hurting cause they always need fresh bodies but I know the Navy, Marines and Air Force are not. And the Navy constantly deploys also.

  Saw today that Harvard and Yale so far have removed their policy of disallowing ROTC on campus.

  the navy is(or was) also shrinking isnt it? i know we had quite a few soldiers come from the navy from like the blue to green program i think it was called or something.

  Yes they are downsizing with optimal manning but they still are building more ships to have a bigger Navy. Go figure.
