Election "Polls"

• Timber
Has anyone on here ever been contacted by one of the "polling" companies... I have been a registered voter since the fall of 1979 (when I turned 18). I vote in every possible election that I can... If I am going to be out of town, I vote absentee... I feel it is a tremendous honor to be able to do so. In all that time I have never been asked who I voted for, or for whom I am about to cast my vote for. I also have never moved out of Ohio, never lost a driver's license, never been arrested (other than that one Buffet concert), and I have never changed political parties even though it has changed.

I am not sure if I even want to be asked lol... Just curious how many on here have been contacted. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I have not seen a conversation about it.

I've been voting since 1976. I've only been called by a pollster once and when I wasn't giving them the answers they were looking for, they hung up!

I have been contacted numerous times over the years. Central Ohio is always a hotbed in any Presidential or mid-term election, so I'm not surprised. Although, I've never experienced the joy of an exit poll.

I have been contacted numerous times as well. Just did one a couple of weeks ago.

Lol, same thing happened to me in 2000.

Precisely why I don't pay much attention to polls.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I wanted to ask something and didn't want to attempt to start a thread since you have to basically jump through hoops to get one.

I heard there was a poll that said something like 8 or 10 percent of California residents were unhappy with the direction the country is heading yet all of the races are either tied or the Dems are winning. What in the hell is the matter with Cali?

Yeah, I'm 0 for 2 in starting a thread. I wish they would at least send me an email that says why....so I don't make the same mistake twice.

Regarding Cali - They essentially legalized pot when they approved it for "medicinal use" a few years ago. I know people that have lived out there recently and they say it doesn't matter about the legalization vote on Tuesday because it's already legal. When they finally look up the definition of insanity and realize it applies to them, it will be too late to do anything about it. What are they....about $500,000,000,000 in debt for their pension funds? I'm sure Moonbeam Brown will fix that! HAHahahahaha....what a freaking joke of a state.

It seems that when a polling companynfinds someone willing to participate and answer in a specifically partisan manner they add that person to a list compiled to create a desired result. I answered a few pollsters one election cycle and now get contacted all the time. When you figure the actual (very small) number of voters polled vs the population it's hard to take them very serious.

I'm 2 for 4. Seems that posting pics about boobs, booty, drugs, etc. and calling people "fucking douche bags", etc. is OK any time, anywhere on OC...except the political forum. Posting political threads can be "screened" if they don't fit this stringent criteria:

Politics Forum Rules
1. No personal attacks (including name calling) on other posters. (You can, however, visit the "serious business" forum and call someone a fucking douche bag if you feel the need).
2. If you are starting a topic about a news item you must include the link, as well as your own opinion on the issue at hand. (On the 2 posts of mine that got ignored or banned, I followed this to the "T"...still got rejected???)
3. If you make a claim that a study supports your view, you must link to the study. (See point 2 above.)
4. Please do not make vague 1 line threads. They may not be approved and/or deleted. (Whatever "vague" 1 line threads means.)
5. All new threads must be approved by moderator before they appear in the forum. Please only submit threads once. (The OC mods are all certified graduates of the Alwaysafan School of Cyber Moderatiion. :p)
I would post a lot more here if you didn't have to meet "criteria" just to post. I understand not allowing a post if someone simply puts a racist comment or something as the title but the threads I have tried to start haven't been contraversial or anything. Oh well I guess. I will just have to keep hijacking threads when I want to make a point. lol now I am just waiting for one of the mods to come on here and tell us how easy it is to meet the criteria blah blah blah.

I agree. I think the mods should watch for blatantly racist, etc. threads and delete if necessary, but to "approve" threads before they go live is NOT what I thought that Ohio Chatter was designed for.

Oh wait...that's right. It was designed to save us $12 a year! lol

I don't know the total answer about California, but I will say that as a past resident (Marin County, right above San Fran) it is a whole different world over there.

That area is chock full of the Berkley Crowd, ex-hippies, hippy wannabees, feminazi's, PC automasochists and aspiring cult leaders that people like Nancy Pelosi are considered "normal".

And therein lies the problem.

Don't get me wrong, I loved California and might even go back someday, but it's really a different world there. Like a different species altogether.

LJ and I aren't on here all the time, but most of the time. I try and approve most threads so long as they are not simple name calling, or cross the line of personal attacks or are just simply talking points without providing a link to a story.

I'm pretty liberal on approving threads, just stick to the rules and remember to provide links to stories and you will probably get your thread approved. If your thread is not approved in a timely manner, just send LJ or I a PM.

I've been contacted a couple times. Again, Central Ohio seems to be (or was) some type of bell weather so I think we get lots of these types of polls being taken.

It's funny, too, you can always tell who is doing the polling by how the questions are phrased (meaning whether the pollster leans left or right). It's so obvious, usually, it is funny.
• stlouiedipalma
I agree. I've been contacted twice this year (when I've been in the U.S.) and on one it leaned right and the other leaned left.

The funny thing is, if you don't go in the direction they want you to go and they end the call, do they even count it toward the total polled? If not, I would guess that it's not very accurate.

The only polling I am interested in is the results tomorrow night. I'm sure the Canadian papers will have a hoot with the results. Our political process is something of a joke to them. They just had city-wide elections in Winnipeg and I was amazed by the lack of negative campaigning.

Canadians making fun of ANYBODY is...well...pretty damn funny.

Seriously... It's just like a Suburb of the USA. We (The USA) are "the city" that deals with all the problems from throughout the world, and they help us out from time to time... LOL! I love Canada though... just kidding :)

I've been polled several times and have never had any issues.
