Gate Crashers Met Obama At State Dinner With India

  Reality show "stars" Tareq and Michaele Salahi were able to breach security and get into the State Dinner which President Obama had with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. And, even scarier, they were able to personally meet President Obama at the dinner.
  
  The Secret Service had a total breakdown in security, and whether one likes President Obama or not, I think this is cause for concern when uninvited guests can get into this type of event, and meet the President. Especially considering he was hosting a foreign dignitary, and these 2 individuals could well have had intentions of harming either President Obama or Prime Minister Singh. I do not think it would be positive for the United States if the PM of another country was physically harmed at a White House dinner due to errors on the part of the US Secret Service, let alone if harm were done to the US President.

  Inexcusable breach of security on the part of the Secret Service. My understanding is criminal charges might be filed against these folks. Perhaps rightfully so but some heads also need to roll in the Secret Service.

  You can't arrest people for what they "could have" done. Everybody would be in jail.

  I agree with you. Had the Secret Service agents working at the entrance to this dinner done their job properly, then this couple would never have been able to get inside and do the things they did inside.
  
  And, once inside, it does not appear that they did anything wrong, other than mingle as though they were invited to the party.
  
  I could be wrong, but something tells me that people routinely try and get into events like this even though they have not been invited, and they are simply turned away by the Secret Service with a stern warning not to return, rather than having criminal charges pressed against them.

  Yeah, see... this is my point. These people had no intent to harm or damage people or property. They did, however, harm employment of some folks I would imagine LOL!

  these individuals went through magnetometers and other levels of screening,

  They should be given a boisterous what-for and sent on their way. Now, if they had any sort of weaponry or whatnot, then throw the book at them. But, juvenile "party crashing" shouldn't be considered a crime, IMO, even though it WAS the President.

  This publicity seeking couple may have done the Secret Service a huge favor by exposing an obvious weakness in security at the WH. Ya think?
  
  The bottom-line is even though the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue gets my undies in a bunch, he's still POTUS. WH security definitely needs some re-evaluation.

  If the Secret Service moves forward with charges against these two, it's for no other purpose than to distract from their fuckup. When crashing a party becomes a crime in this country, then we may have hit rock bottom.
  
  Thank the couple for exposing the hole...do what needs to be done to plug said hole, and move on. Simple.

  There's a big difference between crashing Fish82's New Year's Eve Bash and making a conscientious decision - for the sake of personal publicity/gain - to attempt entry into an official WH diplomatic dinner.
  
  Common sense says this might be illegal but is at least inappropriate.
  
  I think the head of the Secret Service needs a reprimand, the Chief Dufus in charge of security that evening needs a pink slip, and this couple needs at least a fine (if one exists) for making the attempt.
  
  However, I do agree that IF the Secret Service presses criminal charges against these two it will be largely to cover their sorry asses as opposed to teaching the couple a lesson.
  
  Suffice to say there are serious security issues at the WH.

  No matter what your thoughts on Obama, this should worry you as an American. Bush was as unpopular as anyone, and Obama receives something like 40x more threats a month than Bush EVER did. We all know why, and its a shame (even though I hate his policies I don't want anything to happen to the man). The SS knows this (or congress who controls the SS budget) and we still allow things like this to happen?

  As much as I laugh AT him, because he's so over the top ridiculous, it's kinda sad at the same time.
  This man will have this as his only lasting legacy. All his good works will not be remembered. (whatever they may be, I don't know)
  The only thing that people will remember from Manning is his disgust for Obama.

  I highly doubt he "knows" that car is overplayed. Off topic but I would bet my next paycheck that tomorrow nights address with regards to Afghanistan will have multiple references to the perceived inadequacies of the previous administration.

  Interestingly, I was just in the office (at home) cleaning up a little while ago. My stepfather was listening to talk radio through his ham radio setup and Glenn Beck was on.
  Now granted, I didn't hear everything he was saying. But what I heard him talking about was President Obama and secret service people. He said he didn't like Obama's policies but that President Obama and any other President needs to be protected, basically no matter what. I heard him say that the two people involved with crashing the state dinner need to be made an example of.
  It kind of made me wonder just how "off" the mark that GB haters are. I kind of include myself as a "hater" simply because I don't like his delivery (he drives me nuts). But there are some posters here who dismiss him out of hand just because he criticizes President Obama, and I wonder if they will give him some slack, considering.
  Thoughts?

  Why these two haven't been charged by now is a mystery.
  
  I guess the White House would just as soon the whole thing go quietly away than do the right thing and set an example that says people should expect to face criminal charges if they deliberately go around the Secret Service.
  
  Personally, I think they're sending the wrong message by not having immediately filed charges -- but that's just me.
