German Chancellor declares Germany is only for Christian Germans

In America, I think it would help matters a great deal if people would stop the hyphenating crap. IMHO, you're either American, not American, or have dual citizenship.

If you're American, fine. Nobody is stopping your acestory or even dismissing it, by the suggestion of stopping with the prefixes.
If you're not American, then nobody really cares all that much, anyway.
If you have dual citizenship, then a hyphen would be accurate.

Prefixes to nationality only enforce and encourage separationalism. To stop doing that, I believe, would do its job of strengthening our country's identity.

    On topic:

I hardly think that Germany will now start making folks wear a "CG" (Christian German) patch on their clothing. I also don't think that Germany will start rounding people up and shipping them out of the country like cattle... or worse yet, kill them.
And because I don't believe that that will happen, I also believe that Germany is just trying to hold on to their national identity which they have every right to do.

I agree Center. Though I think that at best this was a horribly managed speech/interview and at worst a little disturbing attitude from someone so high up in their government. I too doubt that we're going to see anything drastic come from it though.

I'm sorta neutral on this. But, I'm wondering why it's disturbing? I don't know if it was horribly managed, either.
I mean, if you're looking for something sinister, I'm sure it can be easily found. But, if you're looking more broadly (which I am), I would imagine thoughts would be more ambivalent.

That's what I mean by horribly managed/thought out. Shouldn't make it so easy for people to call you the second coming of the Nazis, even if it's not really true. I think there was a way to say this that wouldn't have people freaking out.
