Do sperm cells fit the above definition of life? Do eggs fit the definition of life? They are most certainly alive.CenterBHSFan wrote: Conception: n. 1. act or effect of conceiving; an idea; notion. 2. fertilization; pregnancy. 3. beginning
Life: n. 1. the aggregate of the powers of metabolism, reproduction, mobility, etc. 2. animals and plants collectively. 3. duration of existence. 4. a condition, or course of living, career, station. 5. a biography. 6. animation; vivacity; vigor.
Begin: v.t. & i. 1. take the first step in an action; commence; start. 2. come into existence; arise.
Alive: adj. 1. living; existent. 2. active; animated. 3. open to impressions; susceptible. 4. filled with living things.
hmmm.... I think you are adding your interpretations to the definitions.
I do not think it is a false dichotomy to suggest there is life and death and no inbetween either something is living or it is not.
Conception is exactly what the definition states. There is life before conception. Do you disagree? Sperm cells are not alive or living? Eggs are not alive or living? -

Tell me then the exact moment when a human being's life begins. Is it conception? 1st trimester? 2nd trimester? 3rd trimester? Birth? Tell me when did your life begin? -
Glory DaysMy 2 cents, when both the heart is beating and brain waves can be detected. but i have also thought about the point at which you no longer need a host to survive(ie. the earliest you can be born and still survive). but i must have missed the part where this had to do with spending haha.
