Obama and Ahmadinejad and UN ..three wrongs

Oh! That should have gotten many of you Liberal Socialist attention.

Wednesday Ahmadinejad spewed the same old same old Israel hater and refusal to talk about nuclear weapons and cooperate on this issue.

Today Obama will speak at the UN ..The last time Obama gave away your money again to countries that hate America. That has little to no effect on anything but more spending.

So here is the question will Obama take a stronger stands to the UN to get involved in the Iran nuclear issue for support? How much will Obama pursue this issue of Iran nuclear weapon potential?

Will Obama dance around the Israel / Iran issue and the potential conflict?

Will this be another Obama failure moment………….. ?

    1. Anything Ahmadinejad says is wrong or a lie. He is always trumping up what Iran is capable of and avoids the nuclear program.

    2. The speech by Obama today will touch on nuclear issues, but also foreign aid and building up the 3rd world or global south. The UN is one forum for dialogue on advancing the U.S. agenda, it has its flaws, but it is still a needed organization to carry out humanitarian issues.

    3. The administration is taking a strong position on Iran. The administration has stated many times it will not accept a nuclear Iran. It is working with the IAEA to effectively ensure Iran is not diverting fuel for weapons. That is where the issue is being played out in the IAEA meetings in Vienna.

But, the question is how to do address it? The Iranians will not even begin to talk or be able to negotiate on anything really.
The Israelis are going to be hard to address as well. But, privately, I'm sure the President is saying to them, don't do anything that would destabilize the region and go beyond a point where the U.S. controls the game. A speech at the UN is not a place to talk about that.

Obama will talk in broad terms, as he should. Any specific policy issues on Iran will be handled through other means.

Less than 1% of our budget is foreign aid so I don't buy the "we're giving away way too much to countries that hate us" bit.

"Some segments within the U.S. government orchestrated the attack," Ahmadinejad told the General Assembly. He followed with the claim that the attacks were aimed at reversing "the declining American economy and its scripts on the Middle East in order to save the Zionist regime. The majority of the American people, as well as most nations and politicians around the world, agree with this view."

That appeared to be the last straw for many of the diplomats. Representatives from the United States, Britain, Sweden, Australia, Belgium, Uruguay and Spain walked out while Ahmadinejad asserted that U.S. government was involved in the attacks or allowed them to happen as an excuse to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I'm not really surprised. There are people in this country who think 9/11 was a conspiracy. IMHO there all nuts.
  • cbus4life
Well, this is one "leftist" who doesn't agree whatsoever with Ahmadinejad and will welcome the day when this scum of the earth is no longer alive, to put it bluntly.

Haven't talked to any other American "leftists" here in New Zealand who agree either, they are as outraged and indignant as the rest of us are.

Only a bunch of nuts who represent an incredibly small percentage of the left would actually agree with him, and they are as inconsequential as to not even give them a second though.

    Bastards, the lot of them.

I might not always agree with the US policy towards Israel, but i would never, in a million years, believe that 9/11 was some sort of plot to save Israel.

I don't know why I'm replying to this...but fwiw I tend to think more hardcore survivalist libertarian-types/federal reserve haters/New World Order/rothschild and Bilderberg people are the types who think 9/11 was an inside job than the average contemporary liberal. just sayin.

Heard on the news that the released "prisoner" from Iran (Is her name Sharon Shroud?) demanded and received an audience with Achmedinejad regarding her fiance and friend whom are still in captivity in Iran. She is doing everything she can to get them free because she knows how wrong it is for them to be held at all.

Seems to me that she is showing far more leadership than the guy we're paying to be our leader. Why doesn't he step up and publicly demand her release while her captor's boss was in NYC? Oh that's right...it's not about him, so he doesn't give a rat's ass. Narcissism works that way.

What has been shown is that you and he share the idea that the United States is an evil imperialist nation that is forcing the rest of the world to grovel before us.

I've never said that the United States is evil. Nor do I think that.

I didn't say we were imperialists either. I merely feel that at times we exhibit some of the tendencies of imperialists which is disturbing. One of the these things is our insane number of military bases abroad (obviously I don't have a problem with all abroad bases but I think that the several hundred we have is a bit ridiculous).

That last quote was a response to a specific poster in a specific thread. Not a broad statement.

And say what publicly? What does the President really have in terms of substance to say? I mean the State Department already has come out for her release and is working through 3rd parties to get her released. But, there is nothing for the President to say, we will do this to get her released. All he can is we will work to get her released. Most of the discussions are behind the scenes and bringing it out publicly does nothing really.

It was the same thing that happened in North Korea. The President did his part behind the scenes.

How about defending Americans? How about demanding innocent tourists be let go? How about sanctions? He looks like a eunich. Not one peep from him.

I know it's not 50 hostages that were shown every night on TV, but 2 young Americans hiking and got lost. Maybe if it was on TV and he could get his mug on the tube every night and appear presidential then he'd do it. Why hasn't Clinton stepped up along with AlGore? They were emissaries last time in North Korea.

Maybe if they blew up a plane and demanded to be let go for humanitarian reasons he'd be more for it like he was for the Lockerbie Bomber that killed hundreds of innocent people.

    BGFalcons,

If President Obama didn't have the nutsack to publicly speak out about Cheron's remarks, where in the world is he going to find'em to speak out against Ahmadinejad?
Not even a veiled rebuttal came then, and it won't now.

    Don't wait for it.
  • BGFalcons82
CenterBHS- It's just more evidence to me that he's in over his head in his current position. You're asking him to show a nutsack and real leadership....not gonna happen unless he can make himself look good or gain political advantage for himself. Unfortunately, the 2 innocent Americans being held hostage-and that's what this is- are waiting and waiting for their country to come rescue them and it isn't going to happen. Especially since they have a nuke-making plant all ready to go and they need as much leverage as they can muster.
  • CenterBHSFan
    Falcons,

I am going to say that Billary is doing some manipulation behind the scenes that will get things done. She probably has people currently in place to enact her wishes in the matter. She's one tough, smart and iron-willed individual, and I would place my money that (even though we'll probably never be allowed to know it) she is the one with ruthless "bartering" that will set them free.
I may not have voted for her if she had won the primary (then again, I can't say for sure) but I have always respected her strengths and know-how. In fact, I have always contended that she was the brains behind the Clinton brawn all along, and I still say it.
The old saying "behind every great man is an even greater woman" still holds true. Even with this.
  • BGFalcons82
Center - I hope you are right for the hostages sake. I wonder what she's negotiating with? In other words, what ae we going to give up to get them back? I have a hunch if we get them back, it will be tied to us not pursuing their nuke program. We will likely never know.
