The Battle for Afghanistan and Pakistan
-
ptown_trojans_1One of the nice perks about working in a DC think tanks is access to some interesting and great reports.
The New America Foundation's Counterterrorism Strategy Initiative has released reports on "The Battle of Pakistan" and earlier this week, "The Battle for Afghanistan". Both sites have really interesting, nitty-gritty reports on Pakistan's SWAT and TAT valleys, and Afghanistan's Helmand and Zabul provinces.
The reports use military, local reporting, and various other on the ground policy makers and military members.
They are really interesting and give the reader way more information than can be found on the news or on cable TV. If you want to get informed on what is going on, here is one area to look.
Also, you can sign up for the daily Afgh/ Pak briefing, which is daily morning briefing on news items from the area.
Note: I do work for New America, and work with some of the authors, so full disclosure. But ,the stuff is realyl good in my view.

I know he is a board member, but he is not employed here, nor does he work on the Counterterrorism Strategy Initiative, that is more Steve Coll and Peter Bergen. Also, Fukayama and Mead are also board members. I haven't seen Fareed once at NAF. But, I respect Fareed and think his latest book on what a multipolar would would look like is very interesting. But, he is not working on this issue with New America at all. It's a non-issue to me on the reports.do you really know fareed zakaria?
