2010 Ohio Gubernatorial Debate
-
Ty WebbModerated by Jerry Revish, with panelists from newspapers all over the state.
Being held at COSI
Been looking forward to this one...
Also,Fox News will release a new poll tomorrow conducted with likely voters and has Strickland down only 5% after being down 10% last month -
ptown_trojans_1Thanks, following online.
-
ptown_trojans_1BTW, Strickland, I get the whole Wall Street vs. Main Street, but Ohio's economy was in the tank long before the financial crisis of 07-08. Move on Strickland. Get to solutions.
-
Ty WebbBoth have looked strong so far....with Strickland given a very very slight edge

Huh, I'm seeing something different.
Strickland is hammering the past while Kasich is focusing on the future, reforming the economy and not really speaking on the past.
Strickland needs to really explain how he would steer the economy forward.
Strickland is character attacking while Kasich is really explaining ideas and policy. -
ptown_trojans_1The education question on funding was flat and really no one had an answer.
I like what Kasich is saying, mostly. Mainly as he is talking about substance while Strickland is playing politics.
I also like his vision so far. -
fish82I'm watching the Reds...as this race is over. Teddy has run the worst campaign I've seen in years.

1.No...that would be Martha Coakley
2.Fox News only has Strickland down 5 points -
ptown_trojans_1Gotta give the edge to Kasich. He was more on point about leading the state forward. But, I would have like a little more on substance on the how part. Strickland on the other hand, mostly stayed in the past, going for character attacks rather than policy and and looking forward.
I also noticed Strickland kept focus on manufacturing jobs, which is a huge mistake. Those jobs are not coming back. Kasich spoke of investment in the private sector and technology jobs, which is the future of the economy in the next decade and beyond.
State funding for schools left a lot to be desired, as both really didn't tackle how they would pay for education.
The death penalty answer was not a surprise, but nice for Kasich to link it to crime (which should have had more focus).
As an outsider who has not been paying attention, and someone who had Strickland as a Congressman, I liked what I heard from Kasich. -
Ty WebbI would judge this as a tie....
Neither one did anything to help or hurt themselves
I would expect the 2nd one to be a little more fiesty -

If you have it as a tie, then Kasich must have been the bomb and took Teddy behind the woodshed.Ty Webb;484332 wrote:I would judge this as a tie....

I mean the debate BG -
ptown_trojans_1Just spoke to the parents, who have been following the race and were Strickland fans when he was at SOCF (dad worked with him at the prison) and the Congressman. They said Strickland did nothing to help his cause and it just reinforced their view that he has no real ideas on going forward.
That said, they are still leaning toward Kasich, but he didn't completely win them over. -
Little DannyI thought Kasich clearly won the debate. Strickland was grasping at straws and at one point resorted to claiming Kasich probably rooted for Miami over Ohio State. Kasich clearly established he had a plan for brining jobs into this state, articulated how he had done it before, whereas Strickland had nothing to add other than to say he loves Ohio and all was not as bad as Mr. Kasich wanted people to believe. I think that lost him a lot of credibility with a lot of people in this state who have felt the brunt of the sagging economy in Ohio.

1. Fair enough. Second worst.Ty Webb;484292 wrote:1.No...that would be Martha Coakley
2.Fox News only has Strickland down 5 points
2. I don't care. Every other poll has him down 12+ points. -
Mr. 300Teddy is running on his last leg...no vision whatsover.
-
PrescottStrickland acted like a 12 year-old kid on the playground.
"John likes Florida so much, I think he must have been rooting for the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday." na,na,na,na, na, na. What a buffoon.
Strickland lost this debate and it wasn't close. As ptown mentioned, Kasich has a vision and he was excited about it. Strickland had nothing and wasn't excited about anything, except getting off of the stage.. -
ts1227Seems like it's just a choice between no ideas whatsoever, or uselessly vague ideas (because they're impractical and impossible to elaborate upon, or he also has no ideas and just hides it better)
Another political race between two complete turds, awesome. -
I Wear Pants^^^^
I believe Lewis Black says it best: "The Republicans are the party of bad ideas. The Democrats are the party of no ideas.". -
ts1227Is there anyone on here that would honestly be able to be swayed at this point by one of these debates? Everyone seems so set in their ways, I was just curious to see if anyone is actually leaving their mind open whatsoever, considering how many had made their decision on this race like 2 years ago.

I have had an open mind. I voted for Strickland. He's stagnant, and has not been beneficial. At all.
If I have to vote outside of a party to flush the toilet, that's what I'll do. I have no other choice. I don't like the smell of sewage, and the fact that it's laying around isn't healthy. -

The hell you say! The Dispatch has their collective tongues down the back of Teddy's undies????? I'm shocked...and...well....pretty damn shocked.
