Who are democrats electing?

I don't believe the president is a wacko. He's inept at a level not seen since the last administration, but he's not a wacko.

You're just being nice. The Obama Ineptitude is eerily reminiscent of the Carter daze.

You're being nice....I remember the Carter era, it sucked. I remember having 4-5 gifts for Christmas and my Dad clipping every coupon imaginable and dinners consisting of vienna sausages. This is worse than that era. Currently we're hanging in, but there doesn't seem to be any semblance of a plan to turn the economy around. Eventually the economic situation will turn into a sociological situation where young people stop believing in our country. The "new normal" isn't acceptable, and if it continues, we're in for far worse than what transpired in the late 70's/early 80's.

The thing that blows is that unlike when Reagan came into save us, whoever takes over for BHO won't have the luxury of Slashing taxes while increasing spending and starting a new era of big deficits to spur economic growth.

Having $13 trillion in debt with the boomers about to retire is sadly going to tie the hands of politicians in this country for a long time as far as doing anything to appreciably fix the situation, and God help us when interest rates go up because debt service payments are going to get out of control even if we didn't add one more penny in new debt from here on out.

One thing is certain: The Anointed One.....the Great Messiah of Hope & Change....along with his Twin Congressional Ministers of Spend Beyond Imagination have done such a miraculous job with our national fiscal policy that it's not difficult to fathom why the American electorate appears ready to boot that kind of success out of power.

My recollection of the Reagan years was largely one of unprecedented economic growth that lasted for nearly 25 years. Nevertheless, I'll grant that tax cuts won't be an option this time around....but with $800 Billion of bogus partisan porkulus spending camouflaged as "stimulus", ObamaKare, Kash fer Klunkers, Government Motors, bailouts of the UAW & NEA, the expiration of the Bush tax cuts looming in the near future, and over-spending that makes "W" seem like a financial genius it won't take much to improve on those absurd and incredibly irresponsible fiscal decisions.

Certainly a Republican re-assumption of Congressional power won't make my Matthews leg tingle since these clowns already proved they can spend with the best of Democrats. But at least we can hope for a return to some sort of DC Gridlock Scenario which is a far better option than the Spectacular Failure of "spend more, spend now, spend often" we've witnessed the last couple of years.

No question that regardless of one's political leanings, this country is in a deep, deep financial malaise. Tax cuts aren't the answer but neither is Obamanomics.

Iggy & Believer - good posts. Food for thought, eh?

I think what we miss most is a leader with a vision, with a positive outlook, and with a message that our best days are ahead of us, not behind. Many thought Reagan was already senile with his predictions of future economic growth, with his vision of America, and his "shining city on a hill" message. But he made us feel better and that's where it starts...with our outlook and attitude. Today's triumvirate casts America as being wrong so often, apologizing to anyone and everyone for actions of our past, bowing to other leaders as if we are subservient to them, telling us that we should emulate certain European states as they have it right and we don't, and finally...suing a state for trying to protect itself from foreign threats. To me, we need a leader with a vision and someone who can make very tough decisions as to how to allocate our very scant resources, including tax revenue.

We can be better, we can be the economic engine of the world, and we can get ourselves out of this economic hell-hole. We need someone to show us the way, don't lie to us, and then get the job done. For me, the person that emulates these traits is Chris Christie.

    We can be better.

Christie may or may not be the answer we're looking for, but it will certainly have to be someone with a no-nonsense take-charge vision like his to get us truly moving in the right direction.

Now who was it who said, "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100906/ap_on_bi_ge/us_obama_economy

    Obama's no Einstein.

I didn't agree with a lot of what Bush did but - hell yes - I'd choose Bush in a heartbeat over the Overrated One currently occupying the WH.

Very astute observation there Gibbmeister. You obviously watched a lot of Little Rascals when you were a kid.
