Obama supporting Ground Zero mosque

-
-Society-Good insight on your thoughts.
Oh wait....this isn't the politics forum with the stupid rules. -
I Wear PantsWho cares?
-
GoChiefsI agree that this is just idiotic. No problem with Mosque's, but you know the history at Ground Zero and what happened. That's going to get a lot of people pissed off for sure.

Obama is an idiot and will not be reelected.
What school district do you teach in? I want to know, because if I ever move back to Ohio I don't want to have my kids going to your school. Your insight is truly amazing. -
GoChiefsActually...I take that back...I didn't read the link at first. But after reading it, I see nothing wrong with what Obama said. They do have a 'right' to build it there. Just IMO, it's in bad taste to allow it. He does say whether or not he thinks it's a good idea. He just supports the fact that it is their 'right' to build it near ground zero if they wish.
-
CinciX12Wow, he shouldn't have said anything about it at all lol. There isn't a right answer to that question if you are him.
-
Glory DaysThe funny thing is, there is already a mosque 2 blocks from where they are going to build this one. it was built before the world trade centers were. so should they just tear that one down then? its not like they are building it on ground zero or even next to it.
-
I Wear PantsWhich is why it's stupid to make such a big deal out of it. Freedom of religion doesn't only apply to Christians. Although some would apparently like it to.
And yeah ccrunner, I'm blindly towing the party line because I don't think there's a big problem that a mosque may be built several blocks away from Ground Zero. -
Hb31187Why is this a big deal?
-
Mohican00The mosque will be two blocks away from Ground Zero and is more akin to a community center than a site devoted entirely to worship. People who are upset about this probably should do something more worthwhile with their time.

It's amazing what one can learn by actually reading the article and not going by the "shock headlines". -

Several blocks for two, hardly a surprise from you.Your sympathy for Feisal Abdul Rauf is again hardly a surprise given your statements that those killing American soldiers are not necessarily bad guys. Rauf even picks the perfect name to hide his motive. Cordoba project. When a supposedly ideal time existed of tolerance during the Muslim conquest and oppression of Spain. It was like Theresienstat, the concentration camp the Nazis showed the world. The Nazis acted like they treated Jews decently. Cordoba in no way reflected the true oppression of other religions for 1400 years under Islam. Rauf supports the extension of Sharia law to America. Now you want to give him a base to push for that extension. He shares your negative feeling for America. Where you see America as imperialist, he sees us as accessories for 9/11 and responsible for Osama bin Laden. His refusal to condemn Hamas reflect your own inability to condemn those who shot, plant ieds or suicide bomb US troops.

Here's the quotes from Obama in case anyone is interested in what was actually said rather than Hyperbole and isadore's conspiracy theories.
I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding," the president added. "In this country, we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances, -

Several blocks, that is a laugh, the building was damaged by debris from the 9/11 attack. It is close enough for Rauf and you to spit on the 9/11 site. No one is denying Muslims the right to practice their religion. As the right to practice religion is denied by the terrorists you provide excuses for. We do not have to provide a site for Rauf to promulgate his hatred for America. You and he share so many opinions about our nation. You both see it as evil. You both provide excuses for terrorists. It is no surprise you defend him given you and Rauf’s shared attitude toward terrorists and America.I Wear Pants;451586 wrote:Dude, chill out. Besides, I was right.

I Wear PantsIs two now somehow not more than one?
Who is providing the site? All the articles that I've read have said that the building/land in question are privately owned and are being privately purchased? What right do you have to try to stop it?
I've said dozens of times before that I do not support terrorist tactics nor do I hate America.
I'm sorry that I don't share your hate for every Muslim or the misguided opinion that all Muslims are terrorist scum.
From an article you linked
I guess he sees our nation as evil too?Marvin Bethea, a paramedic who survived the toxic collapse of the twin towers and suffers from a range of afflictions, including post-traumatic stress disorder and asthma, said he supports the mosque.
"Not all Muslims are terrorists," Bethea said. "Muslims died on 9/11, as well. This is a tremendous gesture to show that we're not all full of hatred and bigotry."
There are plenty of other people who either survived 9/11 or had family members die on that terrible day who don't have a problem with this either. But I guess they are all crazed anit-American's too?
Of course some people will feel awkward about this and many will find this distasteful. They aren't necessarily bigoted anti-islamics because of that either. It's completely understandable that those directly touched by 9/11 could feel weird or angry about this. But we don't block things in this country because we find them distasteful. -
isadore^^^^^^
The use of the term “several” is an obvious dodge to make the site appear far away from the 9/11 site. The fact that it was damaged by debris shows the “several” for the obvious subterfuge it is. The fact that I and any other decent American has no power to stop the purchase, does in no way justify it. Legal and just are far from the same thing. The vast majority of Americans, New Yorkers and the families of 9/11 victims oppose the Mosque. What makes it wrong is not that it is for Muslims but that it is lead by a man who shares your negative opinion of America and your excuses for our enemies.
Your comments about our nation and its troops deny your supposed sympathy for them. You condemn our nation as imperialist. You provide excuses for our enemies and their vicious tactics. You consistently refuse to condemn as evil those who plant IEDs, snipe and suicide bomb US troops,
