Eliminating Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. same thing it has been from day 1. stop asking.

If our government is truely interested in "winning" this war then they need to take off the kid gloves and start shooting anything that looks like Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. You can't fight a civilized war, so you either fight to win or you don't fight. If you start a fight with me on the street I am going to eye gouge, kick you in the nuts and stomp on your throat if I need to. I am not going to stand there and let you hit me a few times and then decide how I am going to fight you.

If our leaders, in both administrations, are/were too chicken s*** to have collateral damage then don't fight a war, sit down and talk about our differences and similarities and find a happy solution.

The Afghan people seem to be happy enough with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda or they would be doing more to halp take them down.

A semi stable Afghani government that can confront and limit the movements and growth of the Taliban, which would dimish the role and scope of the core group of al Qaeda. Winning is also strengthening the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, eliminating the threat to the Pakistani government, thereby ensuring regional stability.

Doesn't work that way anymore. Counterinsurgency 101. More force actually leads to more violence. Read the COIN book or hear General Petraues in interviews. Hitting the core of the Taliban is key, but also ensuring the local population, through controlled uses of force.

yeah what he said, in a much more educated manner.

I wouldn't say it is an immediate thing, we have been there for nearly 9 years. That being said, I believe that if we are going to continue a war in the same manner we have for the past 9 years, we may as well withdraw. However, if we go in and do what we are supposed to to eradicate the enemy (balls to the wall, don't tie the soldiers hands behind their backs), maybe we can win this.

i completely agree. but politicians want votes and sacrifice their balls to get them instead of doing what needs to be done.

To you of course the Taliban aren’t so bad, you know how you think of America’s enemies

. The kind of person who should not be condemned for blowing up American troops with a IED or a suicide bombing. Well what they are Pashtun tribalist, sunni fundamentalist, misogynistic, ignorant, blood thirsty, vicious scum, bad guys. They mutilate and massacre. When each one them dies the world is a better place. They spent several years in power, What removed them from power and providing a base for the massacre of 3000 Americans was United States. And without US efforts there is no reason to think they will not continue, except of course your image of them as not such bad guys.

they seemed to be doing pretty good when we werent in the region. i would say their lives are a bit harder now that we are there.

That is true. I just think that if the end goal is to eradicate Al-Qaeda and any other insurgent groups that we're going to be there forever.

I think that strategic strikes with special forces or targeted bombing runs would probably be more effective than a full blown occupation and it would save some of our troops. Of course I'm not a military strategist so I'm probably pretty far off on that one.

No doubt many muslims are furious and violent people.

Even the "peace" loving ones who are working in our airport jobs and offices won't allow American women can't go into the rental car places-cause women are dogs to them.

I don't mind them coming over, but don't bring your dysfunction with you.

Here women are equals, women are allowed to go out by themselves, and women can rent cars at airports without rage from muslims, at least it used to be that way. Women can show their faces, and when they commit adultery, they aren't stoned, while the male adulterer walks free to screw again.

In short, it is a screwed up group of people with a violent attitude to those who don't agree with them.

Yup, I love terrorists. Clearly it's impossible to not agree with many of the choices our leaders have made in regards to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without supporting the evil, evil Muslim terrorists who hate hotdogs and baseball for no damned reason.

You can go ahead and keep trolling all you want isadore.

While you may consider the killers of American soldiers a joke, I don’t.
Where I see America as a force for good in the world, you see America as

I see our enemies as genocidal, misogynistic scum. You make excuses for them and refuse to label those the people who snipe, plant IEDs and suicide bomb our troops as evil.

That last quote I'm pretty sure is from a thread about the Iraq war. A war which we started. We attacked them, not the other way around.

I have much more complicated feelings on the Afghanistan war because I do believe we had the right to pursue military action against the Taliban government.

Which is why I believe we should withdraw. The politicians won't do what needs to be done, so why allow more of our troops to be killed. Britain couldn't win their in the 19th century. The Soviets couldn't win there (in their backyard) in the 20th. Why are we so ignorant to think we can in the 21st?

That could be said about many, many groups (and posters on OC). I hope you're posting that as your opinion and not fact because you clearly haven't interacted with many of the people you are speaking of.
