Again, I severely doubt this will ever become policy, but the health care bill provided for a reporting policy mandating that a 1099 would have to be filed for any vendor with a charge over $600.
We've had to file 1099's in the past, for personal services that exceeded that threshold. But this goes way beyond that, every business would have to report every business transaction within a 12 month period that in the aggregate totalled over $600.
Buy a new computer from Best Buy for your business....get their EIN and report it on 1099. Take a flight on a business trip....get the EIN from American Airlines and report it. Get goods from Office Depot, get their EIN and report it.
It likely will never happen, any tax receipts would be offset by the costs involved, but it doesn't hurt contacting your congressperson to let them know that this is a ridiculous burden.
