Job creation is spilling over................... NOT
-
FootwedgeHoo boy Nancy....was that a senior moment? The more unemployed we have the more jobs are created? Is that what you said? Kinda like the beeraholic that buys it by the keg and claims that the more he drinks the more he saves. Just think....if everyone got laid off tomorrow, just think of all the new jobs we'd have.
Yogi Berra got nuttin on Nancy. -
gibby08http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/07/02/unemployment_rate_drops_to_95.html
Unemployment dropped to 9.5% -
Manhattan BuckeyeThere is nothing remotely positive about that report.
Just discouraging:
http://tigerhawk.blogspot.com/2010/07/unemployment-in-context.html
If this lasts much longer we're going to see civil unrest.
-edit, thanks for the link though, it sheds some light on where you get your ideas, what do you think about the "no spin" source conveniently omitting that over 600,000 people left the jobseeking market because there simply aren't any jobs? -
gibby08^^^
Your reaction doesn't come as a suprise to me
So a drop in the un-employment rate isn't a positive
Come on dude....a article from a Conservative blog??
There is no reason why someone that is really looking can't find a job.
Grocery Stores,Gas Stations,Fast Food places are all hiring. There is no excuse for people to be un-employed for 26 weeks unless they think they are above working in those places -
Manhattan BuckeyeYour reaction is just as unsurprising....you realize that Obama's own top economic advisors said that the rising unemploment rate just a few months ago was a good sign because more Americans were now looking to enter the job market again, now that the the rate is going down due to the opposite, is that also good news?
Tiger Hawk is hardly conservative, and certainly less so out of the mainstream that that fake article you posted (did you read my post? how dishonest is it to conveniently not mention the decline in jobseekers?) -
gibby08A fake article??
You do realize that Political Wire is one of the most respected political sites in the world right?? -

So you are in favor of not extending unemployment benefits.gibby08;409418 wrote:There is no reason why someone that is really looking can't find a job.

Manhattan BuckeyeRespected by who:
"Unemployment Rate Drops to 9.5%
Even though the economy lost 125,000 jobs last month -- mainly because U.S. Census workers lost their temporary jobs -- the national unemployment rate dropped to 9.5%. The private sector added 83,000 jobs last month.
Let the spinning begin..."
How can the author be so careless not to mention WHY the UE rate went down, despite the economy losing jobs (and insinuate that any spin is involved, even though the article, as short as it is involves spin)? It disrespects the reader. -
gibby08For people who aren't really looking for jobs...no

Manhattan BuckeyeThat has nothing to do with that article, which was terrible. Why do you ignore my point?
Christina Romer had no problem explaining why the number of jobseekers rising is a good thing, why is a falling number ignored? -
gibby08Typical Republican thinking right there

How do you determine who is not really looking for jobs? Time limit? -

Logic, reasonable investigation, and addressing relevant arguments? Maybe I should replace Michael Steele! -
Manhattan BuckeyeFYI here's a WaPo article with Romer's interview.....if I can find the video I'll post it. I remember this very distinctly watching it with my wife and nearly fell of the couch. For the millions of Americans that have been out of work for weeks if not months, I'm not sure adding hundreds of thousands of more job competitors is a "great thing."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/04/AR2010040402964.html
That said, Romer has been more measured than others with her economic outlooks. -
IggyPride00No worries. Zimbabwe (some prefer helicopter) Ben is already planning his next round of quantitative easing where he can swoop in to buy some more shitty junk bonds for top dollar in a further socialization of the losses and privatizing of the gains. Best part is the banks won't even have to loan any of the money out. They can keep the balance sheet looking nice and fat to ensure a nice hefty bonus next year all the while never having to dream of writing down any of the worthless junk they are carrying on the balance sheet at full value (Helocs and 2nd mortgages come to mind on underwater homes) thanks to the beauty of mark to myth accounting. Finally if you happen to be lucky enough to be at a TBTF firm your prop trading desk will have yet another perfect trading quarter because the market is rigged.
Jobless recoveries had been all the rage the past 10-15 years. I will say though it is refreshing to see people finally coming around and realizing that we can't have such an oversized portion of our economy based on a sector that creates nothing of real societal value, but instead just pushes and rearranges paper to make money essentially out of thing air. When you get past all the high falten jargon at its core thats really all it is.
It's like the old saying your parents tell you when you're a kid, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Well, whoever decided we could sustain an entire economy without making or manufacturing tangible goods was severely misguided. It looks even worse now that the rest of the world knows our financial services industry deliberately littered the world with worthless paper to make a quick buck (yes we're looking at you Lloyd).
America is in a bad way right now, and I just pray that we try and right the course before it becomes too hopeless of a cause. Sadly that day is coming sooner than later it seems. -
