What Federal Programs and Departments in the Executive Branch need to be eliminated?

  If we are to take back the Republic and once again align our Government with the spirit and the text of the Constitution, what programs and departments do we need to get rid of?

  What do you propose to do with the Energy Department's possession of the country's nuclear weapons infrastructure, like the labs, maintenance, storage, loading and dismantling areas? It makes up about a 1/3 of their budget, 9 billion a year, p.18.

  Also, how do you expect to maintain the environment, clean air, water, etc. without a Energy, EPA, NRC, etc? How do you prevent another oil spill?

  I propose their elimination. If you want to have a phased out elimination over 2 years, so be it. They are redundant, over-reaching, unnecessary, and highly costly. They could be eliminated, and no one would miss them.

  U.S. Postal Service, it would have to be phased out over a long period (10 years?) and it sucks for the workers, but it has become a victim of modernization. Almost everything important or relevant can be done electronically, for traditional paper mailings (e.g. wedding invitations) I'm sure the private sector can find a lower cost alternative. FedEx and UPS don't have to be the only players in the game.

  Oh Sweet Jesus way to highjack your own thread with a reference to the worst movie of the 90's (arguably), I'm not sure what about that movie was the shittiest:
  
  1) The whole my wife needs to have sex with you, the Postman, because we want a baby - which happens all the time obviously.
  
  2) The reference to Richard Starkey as the new leader, as if everyone is so stupid they don't know that's the name of a member of the biggest band of all time.
  
  3) Tom Petty's presence, I really hope he was high the whole time during production.

  Great point, between The Postman and Water World Costner can handle any post apocalyptical world...and start the new baseball league at the same time!

  Yep, and, he can also deal quite well with the inevitable group of folks that will turn into "savages" as a result of the new world they're living in.
  
  And, like you said, he could bring entertainment into the ravaged world through his baseball knowledge and skills.
  
  And, of course, you have to remember the brilliant movie The Guardian, so he could save us all from the water as well, if his skills from Waterworld weren't enough!

  Indeed. Seeing how i'm predicting it to be a nuclea holocaust rather than a global warming sort-of disaster, i think he would be well suited to deal with the inevitable "aliens" that will result from exposure to so much nuclear radiation and the like.
  
  Maybe thrown in Kurt Russel to be the enforcer, as he has proven himself to be quite useful in situations where society has broken down.

  Would you keep the state analogues of these agencies? Or eliminate those as well? If the latter, how would you propose dealing with various envtl. externalities/tragedy of the commons situations?
  
  Also, if you eliminate the DoE, what would you propose doing with wholesale power? What's your solution to preventing monopoly pricing in a natural monopoly field?
