One is mother nature and the power of nature and the other is man made with rules, regulation and federal relators to provide standard and safety process to mandate over the oil drilling process .... and so goes the beginning of the failure.

You should know about rules and regulation in the bottle washing business.:D

certainly this problem has been around for many years i dont think obama has been in office long enough to take the blame for this one...there certainly were more pressing issues imo
  • cbus4life
Just as ludicrous as those who claimed Bush was responsible for all the destruction that Katrina brought.

To many times we look only at the results of the problem as the issue and never address the root of the problem and the failure that let to the disaster. Administration after Administration has placed selected individual in position to do what ...correct the problem and stablize the department for the safety of American citizen and our country...... Sorry but this one fell in the Obama Administration so they can take the heat ……
Other Administration have had to take the pressure of failure departments so why not Obama?

Not really, in fact, Bush being blamed for Katrina MAY have been the single stupidest thing I've ever read or will ever read in my entire life.

Well, actually, i will agree with you on that.

This is dumb. So was blaming Katrina on Bush. He didn't cause a hurricane and Obama didn't cause BP to fuck up (although it really was most likely just a series of unfortunate events).
  • cbus4life
I say we just all agree to blame the spill on the shrimp.

Answer this question: If the Obama Administration and the Department that Salazar was head of had done their jobs, making sure rules where followed and the Regulators was overseeing the drilling operation per the safety rules set via Salazar Department would the rig burn down and the spill be created and would those safety precaution help prevent this problem? Goverment Public Servant not doing the job.....

Nevermind that government regulators failed at regulating. There shouldn't be regulations in the first place because if there weren't the free market and all of its infallible glory would have prevented this from happening.
  • Mr. 300
Goes with the territory. Obama gets the blame, but the ones that won't carry it are the press, like they did with Katrina.

    Huge difference in my eyes.

    Department of Interior.

But, oversight failed in this instance and it is a result of failure of the government and cost cutting measures by the companies on the rig. It was a awful combination that is resulting in a huge ecological disaster.

Blame goes to government oversight, and response (should have acted a little quicker and not take the word of BP as faith) and of BP and the other companies for failing to be fully transparent and go for the cost cutting measures.

    See!

The shrimp figured they might as well just speed up the inevitable and cover themselves in oil before they're even caught.

    Bingo.

Tried a new thread on this oil spill and as usual I got banned. But, how about the NO party trying to block lifting liability on the oil companys. Hmmmm.....wonder why? They should pay, for all of the disaster.

I find it hilarious that the right wing blames this on not having enough regulations. Aren't they supposed to be the party of "no regulations, let the free market sort out the winners and losers"?

Apparently you are unable to recognize sarcasm when it's applied?

Actually I read it more as blaming the "regulation happy" administration for epic failure to to a job that they profess is so vital.

I believe what GWB was 'blamed' for was a slow response in the aftermath of Katrina....although New Orleans and Louisiana were slow to ask for federal help, the Bush Administration was blamed.

Nary a peep out of the left or the media about this adminstrations response.

Which is exactly why it was stupid. Has nothing to do with President Bush AND it takes time to mobilize a force as big as the one that went to N.O.

Didn't most of them arrive in a period of 48-72 hours? That's INCREDIBLE. Fuck the people who think otherwise, they seem to have some false notion that there are just people standing in a sprinters starting position ready to break to a disaster area. Dumb fucking people that's all it was.

What are you talking about? I'm not familiar with this--what liability limits are shielding BP from responsibility here?

Pointing out regulatory failure in an obvious situation of industry capture doesn't necessitate additional regulation. It's what has traditionally prompted calls for reduced regulation and what drove much of that movement in the 1970s/80s. Industry capture is an inevitable result of regulation, as has been discussed on here before, and simply creating "new" regulations or getting "new" regulators in there doesn't change that in the long run.
