    Exactly.

Which is filthy. I'd expect that anyone else getting caught doing so would not get elected ever again either.

there probably would be no one in congress right now if they were all investigated.

So unless we catch all the crooks, we can't punish the ones we do catch?

One thing that differentiates Traficant from all the other 'criminals' in D.C. is that he has actually 'done his time' and 'paid for his crime'. From one standpoint that perhaps puts him ahead of all the shysters, cheats, and hypocrites in congress.

Add that to the fact that he will not be grovelling up Pelosi's rear every time she looks his way, and he will not be supporting disastrous legislation like obamacare, and cap-n-tax; he should be considered.

Plus you have to like his stance to abolish the IRS.

Lol, however you try to rationalize it, you're still a hypocrite and lose all credibility when complaining about all the "crooks in DC" when you would actively work to put an actual convicted "crook" in DC along with all the other crooks you see there.

So you are saying that if you had your choice between:

a rehabilitated small-time "crook" who served his sentence, and would vote in the best interests of the job creators,

    vs.

a phony, ass-kissing, flunkie who supports the most disastrous legislation ever to come out of D.C. which will only exacerbate our massive unemployment problem,

that you would choose the latter?

Or because he is the one that actually committed a crime rather than just being someone that you disagree with.

If the other people commit the same offenses then they'll be charged with them when they are found out. And I'll advocate not voting for them either.

Probably wouldn't vote for either. Just think it's funny that you would willingly put a crook in Washington when you complain often about D.C. being "full of crooks."

I guess i understand your logic, but think it is ironic still.

The problem with the Mahoning Valley is that it is basically a one-party area. For this reason, the area gets very little from federal or state projects. The democrats take this area for granted, so they don't generate many projects. The republicans know they can't win here, so they don't help get any projects. In many cases, I feel the people voting for Traficant are voting against this situation more than they are voting for him.

Tim Ryan is a good person, but he is a great example of the situation that I described above. I am not sure if he has ever voted against Pelosi on anything. He blindly follows the party.

I am a democrat, but I don't always vote for someone just because he/she has a D after their name on the ballot.

Do you even have a clue what he went to jail for?

He went to jail because he pissed someone off and they sold him out. He went to jail for playing the political game, which is a necessity whether that is right or wrong and whether you like it or not.
This is a really sad post

He went to jail because he took brides and illegally enriched himself by using his office. There is no amount of "serving his time" to allow someone who willingly and knowingly stole from the public to be allowed to represent the public.

If there are hundreds out there that do the same thing, go after them. But that does not justify in anyway what this buffoon has done to this valley.

Hopefully he gets his hat handed to him, and he goes away (but I doubt it) There are just too many people out there who, for some unknown reason, thinks this guy cares about anyone other than himself

    You're very misguided

Not only is he a blind follower, he is also the guy that got up and railed against the Tea Party for being racist with no actual proof.

No, no. You are the one who is clearly misguided.

Traficant had too many invalid signatures, fell 107 short after they were certified.

    He's off the ballot.

Its too bad we won't get to see Ryan wipe the floor with old Jimbo. But he could run yet as a write-in candiate. Same result. Frankly Jimbo is a crook and even many of the airheads here in the Valley wouldn't be enough votes to win for him. Ryan will have another sizable vote.

I chuckle at the comments. Both the Vindy & the Trib have run articles in the past showing the amount of money both Jimbo & Ryan had brought into the Valley. Ryan wiped the floor with Jimbo on that as well. Jimbo was looked at as a fool & a loser in DC by both parties and did little for the Valley , other than give lip service. Ryan has pored alot of money in the the Valley and now lots of plants are starting up or expanding and jobs are coming back. Would appear that the Far Right fears Pelosi will retain her position as the D don't appear to lose either house this Fall and Ryan is in line to bring home more money ( and probably jobs) as a close friend to Pelosi.

i guess instead of a booming steel industry, youngstown will be known as the 1-800 call center that rivals india. that is really about the only jobs ryan has brought to the area.

The tech sector in Youngstown is actually growing pretty well. Youngstown Business Incubator is one of the best incubators in the country. Also, Youngstown has been named one of the best cities to start a business in by several magazines recently.

And there's the steel plant that's opening (not saying it was Ryan alone or him at all that helped get it but he obviously didn't drive it away).

It's been like that for 25 years, and no political party is going to fix it (well beyond that). Call center jobs are better than no jobs.
  • Paladin
V&M is now hiring for an addtitional 200 jobs as today's news in the paper. Another company in Salem is opening for another 90 jobs. And nothing wrong with having call center jobs. The addtional jobs at Lordstown and the coming jobs of auto parts suppliers moving in for Lordstown on the way make a nice boost for the Valley. Add in the new Community College jobs and the expanding tech sector and things are much brighter than they have been in years.
