  It's a cool lie though, "knowing" the exact amount a a non-existant fine makes believable.

  Whether the government can enforce the "individual mandate" is not important. This bill allows people to not buy any form of insurance until they actually need it. This will ruin private health insurance. Which I believe is the point, but thats another argument for another day.
  
  This allows me to not buy insurance for years, then one day when I think I have cancer, go buy insurance and now they have to pay for it. This is no different than me saying to my bank that I don't plan on putting any money into my account for the next 5 years, but I'll stop by and take out some money when I need it.

  $1600 is correct. $695 in 2014 and $1000 in 2016. No one knows if is actually enforceable or not, that remains to be seen.

  That said, the guy said you WILL be fined exactly $1600 for not buying health insurance and he is a hot mouthed liar for doing so. I am going to have to disagree with one part of your post, enforcement of the "individual mandate" IS important or the riiight wouldn't feel the need to spread lies about it.

  Question, shouldn't there be a fine though? Because if insurance companies can't deny for preexisting conditions and there is no penalty for not having insurance wouldn't you be stupid to carry insurance until you need it?

  huh? #1, you don't need to be calling someone a liar when what they said was true. The total fine would be $1600 by 2016. The law clearly states that you would.
