Attendees dished out major $$$$$$ to hear the President speak, only to have it rudely interrupted throughout.
Nobody listens to the message if you behave like this. -
WriterbuckeyeTypical liberal tactic to shout down someone when you disagree with them. This, of course, from the political folks who kept telling us that dissent is patriotic and freedom of speech is the most precious of all the freedoms -- unless it's something they don't want to hear, of course.
These folks are too stupid to realize that their message gets lost in the medium when they pull a stunt like this. Nobody remembers anything except how rude and obnoxious they were. -
I Wear PantsAnd the dude already agreed with them.
-
GeneralsIcer89If he agreed with them, he'd do more to get it repealed. Words are simply that.

You're too smart to constantly fall into generalizations about entire groups. -
Little DannyIt will get repealed. As others have stated, there are more pressing issues right now-- such as the economy.
With that being said, Obama really already has the gay vote locked up just by being a D. He could take no action on this matter and still would have their votre come 2012. -

WriterbuckeyeDistort all you like, but it's a tactic routinely used by the LEFT -- not the right.
How many liberal speakers have been shouted down trying to give talks at colleges, or outright had those appearances canceled because of this tactic?
Not many, I assure you.
It has happened to a number of conservatives.
Plus, back in my liberal days I participated in protests for various reasons and that tactic was always used when a person representing the other side attempted to speak.
You can SAY it's used by both groups -- but it's primarily used by liberals. You saying otherwise doesn't change that fact. -
WriterbuckeyeHere's a pretty good article on the subject as it relates to college campuses.

I think your problem here is with young people (who happen to be on college campuses) not liberals.Writerbuckeye wrote: Here's a pretty good article on the subject as it relates to college campuses.

WriterbuckeyeUh huh. Then perhaps you can provide me with articles talking about conservatives on campus who are shouting down liberal speakers.
-
supermanI'm waiting on Fairwood to come in and say that this is impossible because he is a member of the largest pro-gay group and the Pacific northwest and they would never do this.

You might want to check out the recent history of Berkley, a very liberal college and the violence and the intimidation that goes on there. Yes, it's about being very young but it's also about being extremely liberal also.I Wear Pants wrote:

cbus4lifeIt all depends on whether an institution is on the right or the left.
I went to a school where the college republicans were the dominant political group on campus, and it happened numerous times. They were more "disrespectul" than those on the left. Whoever has the more dominant group is of course going to more vocal, show up in greater force, etc.
I then went to a grad school that had a very liberal environment. And there, the left shouted down opponents more often than the right did, and were very disrespectul.
It happens on both sides.
My friend went to Cedarville University, a decidedly conservative school, and she was heckled, as were other members of her group, when campaigning for Obama on campus. Incredibly disrespectul, and she was honestly scared at times.
And the same happens to conservatives at a campus like Cal.
It happens everywhere, and it is really a shame. -

I would expect similar heckling if Obama would go talk at say, Ashland University or some other conservative college.CenterBHSFan wrote:

Fine. Start a thread about it when it happens.
FYI, I lived less than an hour from Berkley, I KNOW the shenanigans that went on there. Youtube has tons of visual information that you can see with your own eyes.
Do I think every young liberal acts like that? No, I do not, because when I was that age (and liberal) I never would have.
But, sometimes we just got to admit that it is what it is. -
Writerbuckeye
I'll await some documentation of such stuff if/when it happens. But right now, it's not happening...and if it is, I am dead certain it would be making the news.I Wear Pants wrote:

Uhhh, what FACT? You saying so doesn't make it a FACT either.Writerbuckeye wrote: Distort all you like, but it's a tactic routinely used by the LEFT -- not the right.

You can SAY it's used by both groups -- but it's primarily used by liberals. You saying otherwise doesn't change that fact.
I understand and respect your conservative values, but what really gets me about you is how you consistently act like republicans are better people than democrats. Politics is a nasty game on both sides. -
Writerbuckeye
I already provided documentation beyond my opinion that makes it fact. If you've got similar documentation to counter what I posted, please provide it. Otherwise, my point stands.goldengonzo wrote:

I agree with you that colleges will always tend to have more liberal-leaning students who find their voice and show a display of protest against a speaker.Writerbuckeye wrote:

But just because you're piece had cited a couple of examples does not all of a sudden make it a "fact."
In the college world? Yes, it's much more apparent. But, outside of that, I really see no difference between that compared to religious right bigots who heckle public events with their "God Hates Fags" signs. -
WriterbuckeyeOh please. A few folks with signs is not the same as stopping a speaker from speaking or making them stop. Enough of the false equivalence.
Right now, the left makes use of this tactic FAR more often than the right. In fact, almost exclusively.
That is a fact -- and I don't care if it's mostly college students or not.
It is what it is.
