tk421What a surprise. The government CAN NOT control their spending. The only way they know how to fix a problem is increase taxes. Anyone who didn't see this coming is blind. If a VAT is added during Obama's 1st administration, he will not be reelected, period.

But, i agree that, if this is introduced, Obama will be in trouble. -
tk421Hey, I have a radical idea. Instead of adding new taxes and raising old ones, why not cut the government? Nah, that's a dumb idea, how would we get votes then? Anyone on this site actually believe that if a VAT is added, that money will be used to pay off the debt? Any new taxes will be spent just like the rest and we will still have deficits every year.
-
QuakerOatsA VAT would be a complete disaster, as is adding trillions more in debt ala the health legislation.
We're on the road to nowhere ............................. Talking Heads -
Mr. 300America voted for this, so I guess we get what we asked for. 2012 can't get here fast enough.
Cbus, Obama has been in trouble for a while. This fall will be a great weather vain for what 2012 will bring. Would you vote for Obama again?? -
IggyPride00There is not a Democrat or Republican that will go on the record and vote for the punishing cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Defense spending that would be required to balance the budget without raising taxes.
You could literally cut every dollar of spending the government does outside of those 3 programs (and interest on the national debt is also untouchable but still a monster) and you wouldn't balance the budget.
Republicans are going to take back control of Congress and find out the same things Democrats have in that there is no money to pay for anything they want to do.
In 2012 instead of bitching about the money wasted on Stimulus spending that didn't create growth we will be hearing about budget busting Republicans tax cuts that exploded the debt and did little to create jobs (a re-run of the last decade).
The VAT is coming, and until we find 535 people willing to goto Congress and impose draconian cuts on S.S, Medicare and Defense we will keep seeing taxes increase. -
tk421
I know that. No one in this government has the balls to do what is necessary for this country. Until literally the people in this country get so fed up with this crap that they do something about it, it will never change. It will take some kind of revolution to change the ways in D.C. They have way to much power and will not give it up without a fight.IggyPride00 wrote: There is not a Democrat or Republican that will go on the record and vote for the punishing cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Defense spending that would be required to balance the budget without raising taxes.

Mr. 300Cut gov't employees. Their current rate of unemployment is 3%......why can't we start there??? Start reducing the size of gov't by reducing salaries, benefits, perks, etc. of the workforce. This is how small, medium, and large business have to cut cost.

At this point...probably not.Mr. 300 wrote: America voted for this, so I guess we get what we asked for. 2012 can't get here fast enough.

You are correct. We have come the point where it appears no matter who we elect to office in the federal government things will continue as they always have. Ever increasing government, debt, and soon taxes. It will no doubt take some sort of revolution (either by the states or individual citizens) to radically turn the federal government in a different direction. We can only pray it will be a peaceful one.tk421 wrote: I know that. No one in this government has the balls to do what is necessary for this country. Cleveland BuckNo matter what the tax rates are the government only collects a certain amount of revenue. It's not like raising taxes is going to come close to paying for the size of this government. They will never cut spending though, so we might as well just live it up until we go bankrupt.

ANY Democrat that would vote for a 3rd party or Republican candidate is not a true Democrat.
Why wouldn't you vote for him cbus?? Not liberal enough? -
Cleveland BuckLOL

tk421
That is what is wrong with this country and how these idiots get elected. People like you who think you have to vote for party lines just because they have a certain label next to their name. No real change will ever come because of that.gibby08 wrote:Mr. 300 wrote: Would you vote for Obama again??

There must be a lot of Democrats who aren't "true" then, because a lot of them didn't vote for Obama. It must be nice not having to think for yourself.gibby08 wrote: Think what you want....but what I said is the truth -
gibby08That would be correct
9% is alot of Democrats?? -

As tk421 said this is what is wrong with this country. Why can't people vote their conscience? Why must they tow the party line if they feel the party they have affiliated with is wrong? How about when the democratic party wanted to preserve the institution of slavery? Or racial segregation? Would you be a true democrat if you stood against that political ideology?gibby08 wrote: ANY Democrat that would vote for a 3rd party or Republican candidate is not a true Democrat.
I have been a "registered" republican ever since I could vote. I have contributed my hard earned cash to the party in times past. Because of my past support I am on their mailing and call lists. When I get the call (if I don't hang up on them) I promptly tell them what it would take to earn my hard earned cash. It pretty much ends the conversation.
Gibby, as you mature hopefully you will come to the realization that I did, that the political party you affiliate with does not always have the best interest of your country at heart, but in securing its own political power.
