Bitterrunner-upMan, you guys love to meet.

cruiser94I'll consider you one that won't be there.

You'll be correct.cruiser94 wrote: I'll consider you one that won't be there. -
Coach_SimpsonWon't be there tonight, this is the first I've heard of it.

huntergreenRigsby's at 6! I heard there is a pre-meeting meeting there as well.
-
bigdogdadWhile you are there, could someone maybe turn in the OCC selections to the Dispatch so we could maybe see who all of the selections for each division are. If this was done, maybe someone can call down there and have them print it. Of course I looked on the OCC web site and wrestling season must not have happened. The basketball is sure covered though.
-
cruiser_96I loved the meeting. A great deal of working together from what I saw. People recognized problems and were honest about solutions. To me, that is where strides can be made... people working together on our end, all in order to create a positive atmosphere for the kids to thrive in.
Also, I thought the emcee for the night kept things moving well.
Nice work, gents. -
cruiser94OCC Tounament at St. Johns?
Something similar to OVAC? -
Mat Shark
that would be very coolcruiser94 wrote: OCC Tounament at St. Johns? -
cruiser_96Not even CLOSE to being mentioned. Nice try though, coach. To be honest, if you REALLY wanted the scoop, you'd've been there. I was forced to sit with the Olentangy and Licking Heights guys!!! And before you even ask...yes! I did shower when I got home!!!
See you tomorrow, bro. -
cruiser_96I just made some udjustments and updates to my 32-man, OCC brackets. It is possible, but it would take a great deal of teamwork, coordination and effort. It would also take some cash...
-
cruiser_96There are a couple ways to go on this.
Friday night could be hosted by 4 schools, one from each OCC Division, for the prelimenaries. That could be Friday from like noon or 2pm to 8 or 9pm that night. THEN!!! everyone could meet at another school for the remaining rounds.
Or we could rent St. John Arena for two days and run 8 to 10 mats and MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
Now the question becomes who REALLY wants to do this in late January. A-hem... not me! Who REALLY wnats to give up some of the more prestigious Christmas tournaments??? A-hem... not many of you!
So when do we do it? My guess; Never. But it sure was fun making 32-man brackets on MicroSoft Excel!!! Complete with cross-bracketing consolation brackets! Man... I was like a pig in mud right there. -

That would be sweet.cruiser94 wrote: OCC Tounament at St. Johns?

The OVAC tourney is a big deal back in the Valley.
Don't most leagues/conferences have an individual tourney? -
cruiser_96Don't most leagues? As far as I know, yes.
-
huntergreenCruiser, this is my thought. I have been discussing this for 2 years. We run it on a Saturday and Sunday the last weekend in January. It would have to be a bracket, double elimination tourney. We would wrestle the finals before an OSU dual on a Sunday afternoon. The last weekend in January is best because no OCC school are tied down that weekend due to the league duals a couple years ago. There is no MIT, Top Gun, CIT, Ironman, Elgin, etc. that weekend. We can make this happen if we get enough schools to commit. This would showcase central Ohio wrestling around the state, as well as the OCC.
Tell me this is not a great idea! -
cruiser_96It's NOT a great idea. Currently, Central Ohio HAS a premiere tournament on the last Saturday in January. It's called The Cruiser Invitational. Period.
In all honesty, I love the idea. I just finished putting bout numbers for in for 103. We could do it two ways... A true 32-man bracket OR, the way I used, keep to your quarter according to yuor OCC division in order to let the wrestlers decide who is 1st, 2nd and 3rd team for each division. Then, for the semis and finals, it becomes an absolute free for all!!! (Each semifinalist is an OCC champ.) Actually, doing this second way would guarantee 2 wrestlers from each division placing in the top 8, and thus, not a TRUE representation of placement in the OVERALL OCC. However, it would eleviate trying to vote it out in a room somewhere. -
huntergreenWell, lets have days one at the home of the Cruisers and days 2 at St. Johns.

But then wouldn't you miss another opportunity to meet together???cruiser_96 wrote: However, it would eleviate trying to vote it out in a room somewhere. -
CthelitesI like what Cruiser said to start with the Leagues first then Conference.
Maybe you could go with the League championship 8 man bracket on day/week one. Then take the top 3 in each league and do a Conference Championship 12 man bracket with the League champs getting a first rd bye on day/week 2.
That way no one gets the shaft in their league by being on the wrong side of the bracket.
I think it would generate CASUAL fan interest and media interest.
Plus I think the kids would get jacked up for it! -
cruiser_96
Why I oughtta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :@Bitterrunner-up wrote: But then wouldn't you miss another opportunity to meet together???
bitter: Can you recite the 14 people in the van that went up last year? I think I nailed it but there was one or two that really made me think.
Anywho, I have May dates set... They'll be announced at our opening session of open mats.
See you 'round.
Cthelites: It would technically go Divisions then conferences. But, the added bonus of doing it as a two-day is that it only uses three points as opposed to 4 or more. -
Bitterrunner-up
I'm not sure I could name all 14. I hope you get that many and more for this years trip(s). BTW, I talked to Coach G up at Wadsworth, and I have his open mat schedule...in case we want to may a second trip and see how the defending Champs do it. I've been there a few times (most recently last year), it's a very different set-up than Solon, noit nearly as big and much more structured.cruiser_96 wrote: bitter: Can you recite the 14 people in the van that went up last year? As far as my participation, I don't know exactly what I'm doing this off-season. This is the first time in a while that I'm attached to a program that I am trying to build, rather than just helping develop individuals here and there. I don't know how that's going to affect my involvement in other school's open mats. I hope I can convince the kids I'm working with to meet me at The Port and a couple other rooms to test out the things they're learning in the Freestyle Club. We'll see. I've always been a firm believer in open mats and the positive effect thay can have on wrestlers when they're done right.
Anyway, keep me posted on those May dates. -
cruiser_96I'd LOVE!!! to visit Wadsworth's room! To be honest, who cares HOW they run it! Something's working up there, right!?
Anywho, I love the O'tangy connection you are feeling and hopefully you can get a crew to Darby or Coffman or Westerville Central or even down to the Port. I enjoy the energy and hopefully the kids can catch the fever and who knows, perhaps, in our own small way, we can impact the next generation in a positive way for this sport and their lives. Big dreams for an open mat, eh!?
Anywho, I'll keep you posted.
Try to get an emailed version of the medical form for the Solon open mat. I think I'd rather appear to be a little more with it this time. Peace!
