D1 State Predictions
-
USMCdevil05Here ya go. Again I do these just for fun and to start conversation.
103
STATE CHAMPION- Nick Garcia (Orange Clay)
Runner Up- Dean Heil (Lakewood St. Ed's)
3rd- George DeCamillo (Cle. St. Ignatius)
4th- Jack Young (Mentor)
5th- Austin Marsico ( Pickerington North)
6th- Eddie Noble (Lebanon)
7th- Sonny Shump ( Barberton)
8th- Cory Selmon (Cin. Princeton)
Garcia lost last week. I see him over coming that this weekend and walking away with the title. Heil and DiCamillo could go the other way in the semis, but coming off a big win against Garcia last week is relly steam rolling this young man into gear.
112
STATE CHAMPION- Kory Mines (Maple Hts)
Runner Up- Mitch Newhouse ( Massilon Perry)
3rd- Filandus Boyd ( Col. Marion Franklin)
4th- Alfredo Gray (Wadsworth)
5th- Shawn Ague ( Young. Austintown Fitch)
6th- Artem Timchenko (Olentangy Orange)
7th- Stephen Myers ( Cin. Arch Moeller)
8th- Drew McDougle ( Gahanna Lincoln)
Mines lost last week against Newhouse, I don't see that happening this week. I think his biggest threat will come from Boyd in the Quarters.
119
STATE CHAMPION- Jerome Robinson (Cle. St. Ignatius)
Runner Up- Kagan Squire ( Wadsworth)
3rd- Angelo DiSabato ( Hilliard Davidson)
4th- Jerry Pasquale ( Young. Boardman)
5th- David Caston ( Sandusky)
6th- Mike Labry ( Twinsburgh)
7th- Noah Forrider (Marysville)
8th- Max Byrd ( Cin. LaSalle)
Robinson's biggest match of the tournament will come in the semis against DiSabato, he is on a whole different level than Squire. Squire will walk through his side of the bracket though.
125
STATE CHAMPION- Jake McCombs ( Marysville)
Runner Up- Gus Sako ( Lakewood St. Ed's)
3rd- Nick McSorely ( Trenton Edgewood)
4th- Narcsisco Inchaurregui ( Lorraine Southview)
5th- Jake Corrill ( Cin. Arch. Moeller)
6th- Nick Hannan (Massilon Perry)
7th- Tyler Weiskittel ( Cin. Oak Hills)
8th- John Dillon ( Young. Boardman)
This is a very tough weight class with alot of seasoned vets in it, but I think McCombs is looking super good right now and on top of his game. He pulls it out and brings home the title.
130
STATE CHAMPION- Jamie Clark ( Lakewood St. Ed's)
Runner Up- Cody Shivener (Springboro)
3rd- Jay Kunzi ( Pataskala Watkins Memorial)
4th- Ryan Hoyt ( Cle. St. Ignatius)
5th- Drew Hammer ( Cin. Arch Moeller)
6th- Matt Hammer ( Medina)
7th- Donnie Ballou ( Cin. Western Hills)
8th- Mike Carlone ( Mayfield Village Mayfield)
Even with Clark only having 14 matchs under his belt for the year doesn't matter. He should win still, but Shivener will put up a good fight. Should be a great match.
135
STATE CHAMPION- Ty Davis ( Westchester Lakota West)
Runner Up- Tyler Riegle (Springboro)
3rd- Shawn Fayette (Miamisburgh)
4th- Francis Calarco ( North Royalton)
5th- Jake Sage ( Kettering Fairmont)
6th- Austin Sams (Fairfield)
7th- Louden Gordon ( Wadsworth)
8th- Mark Martin ( Lakewood St. Ed's)
Davis will first have to get past Fayette in the semis. I think he wins here and then wins handily in the finals. Even though Riegle is coming off of a huge win against Fayette for the District Title last weekend, this is what will catapault him into the finals. I think Davis will take home the championship though.
140
STATE CHAMPION- Robert Shepherd ( Mason)
Runner Up- Randy Languis ( Dublin Scioto)
3rd- Kyle Marrone ( Parma)
4th- Nate Ball ( Wadsworth)
5th- Shane Foster ( Massillon Perry)
6th- Alec Marsico ( Pickerington North)
7th- Devon Range ( Lyndhurst Brush)
8th- Conner Dempsey ( Westlake)
Robert Shepherd and Randy Languis have met this year already. Shepherd won by 1 point. I think he wins here again. Languis won't go down with out a fight though. This is probably one of the best matchs of the meet.
145
STATE CHAMPION- Brad Squire ( Wadsworth)
Runner Up- Anthony Salupo ( Lakewood St. Ed's)
3rd- Jerrell Valliant ( Sandusky)
4th- Tyler Giffin ( Harrison)
5th- Tyler Luft ( Ashville Teays Valley)
6th- Kyle Roddy ( Becksville Broadview Hts.)
7th- Kenny Locsei ( Willoughby South)
8th- Alex Mickley ( Hilliard Davidson)
Brad Squire is wrestling very well right now. This will not be a easy tournament for him by any means though. He will Face Luft in the semis most likely, and then Salupo in the finals. This is a big match for him and his team. I think he knows that and knows what he has to do.
152
STATE CHAMPION- Pierce Harger ( Cin. Arch moeller)
Runner Up- Kyle Bryant ( Piqua)
3rd- David Habat ( Cle. St. Ignatius)
4th- Waquiem Comar ( Twinsburgh)
5th- Alex Gordon ( Dublin Scioto)
6th- Kyle Swan ( Strongsville)
7th- Sean Bui ( Pickerington North)
8th- Teddy Hammer ( Medina)
Bryant is my underdog pick for this weight class. He had a huge win over Gordon in last weeks District Finals. He beat Gordon by 10 if my memory serves me correct. I don't think he has the fire power to pull off the win against Harger though.
160
STATE CHAMPION- Nick Sulzer ( Lakewood St. Ed's)
Runner Up- Charles Mason ( Cin. Princeton)
3rd- Caleb Marsh ( Marysville)
4th- Chet Bissell ( Twinsburgh)
5th- Brandon Walker ( Springboro)
6th- Sheldon Brandenburgh ( Wadsworth)
7th- Brocky Leidecker ( Ashville Teays Valley)
8th- Damien Perry ( Mentor)
Nick Sulzer is on a different level than anyone else at this weight. I think Marsh is really 2nd best here and could give him a much better match than Mason, but due to a un lucky draw he will most likely not make it to the finals, He will see Sulzer in the semis. Walker and Leidecker are the darkhourses I could see in the finals from the other half of the bracket. These 2 are very tough and wrestle alot alike.
171
STATE CHAMPION- Josh Demas ( Westerville North)
Runner Up- Ian Korb ( Cin. Elder)
3rd- Sam Wheeler ( Copley)
4th- Kwan Bailey ( Groveport-Madison)
5th- Michael Alexander ( Findlay)
6th- Nate Brubaker ( Toledo Start)
7th- Matt Ferguson ( Pickerington North)
8th- Tyler Ramsey ( Springboro)
Josh Demas is worth the 12 Dollars admission you will pay to get into the finals. He is a great athlete to watch! Also is Korb! These 2 will battle it out. I see Demas walking away and on his way to "THEE" Ohio State University with the title!
189
STATE CHAMPION- Nick Miller ( Centerville)
Runner Up- Caleb Busson ( Wadsworth)
3rd- Tylor Trautwein ( Fremont Ross)
4th- Fred Robertson ( Maple Hts.)
5th- Joe Tayse ( Massillon Perry)
6th- Chris Kelly ( North Olmsted)
7th- Nick Brown ( Gahanna Lincoln)
8th- Irayel Williams ( Cle. Rhoades)
Nick Miller is very tough. The only thing that I can see maybe coming in the way of his title is Bussons' schedule. He wrestles a much tougher schedule than Miller. I still think Miller wlks away with the title in this one though.
215
STATE CHAMPION- Kyle Rose ( Centerville)
Runner Up- Nick Tavanello ( Wadsworth)
3rd- Nate Weeks ( Marysville)
4th- Michael Samijlenko ( Parma Normandy)
5th- Ray Gordon ( Fairfield)
6th- Anthony Wise ( Massillon Perry)
7th- Dane Cullen ( Mt. Vernon)
8th- Will Porter ( Willoughby South)
Rose is a very strong wrestler. I think he wins here. Tavanello is a tough as nails sophmore who loves to pin. Tavanello will have to get past Weeks in the semis though. Weeks is my dark horse here. He is a big and fast extroidinary athlete, and if he is firing on all cylinders he could win the whole thing.
285
STATE CHAMPION- Kosta Karageorge ( Thomas Worthington)
Runner Up- Billy Vaughn ( Brecksville Broad. Hts.)
3rd- Nick Rajcsak ( Stow Monroe Falls)
4th- Jordan Marrero ( Reynoldsburgh)
5th- Ben Buzzelli ( Wadsworth)
6th- Max Gladstone ( Findlay)
7th- Blake Lucas ( Xenia)
8th- Konnor Belvins ( West Chester Lakota West)
Kosta Karageorge is an extremely good heavy weight! The only thing that I think could play a part in him not winning a state title is his lack of strength on his schedule. I think he pulls of the win here and finishes his season at a perfect 41-0! He will have to wrestle the tournament of his life though, he will face Buzzelli in the Quarters and then Vaughn in the Finals! Marrero is my darkhorse to end up in the finals from the other side of the bracket. 3 of his 4 loses come from Vaughn, Buzzelli, and Karageorge. He is a strong wrestler and he is hard to move.
I hope everyone enjoys this read. Like I always say this is just for fun. Hope to see everyone at the Schott this weekend! Good Luck to all and we are off to the Meca of Ohio High School Wrestling! -
I Wear PantsGood picks, I don't know enough D1 wrestlers to really give any inputs/debate.
I'm leaving after my Psych class tomorrow for Columbus. -
USMCdevil05I was going to do D2 and D3 but my wife is kinda up my butt to get away from wrestling and spend time with her! Women! Don't think she will ever understand that I am preety busy from December to March! loL!
-
hang_looseFayette and Davis will be a must watch match in the semis. Looking for Fayette in the finals.
Nice job USMC... -
BuzzBomb285i've only got my cross brackets on 103-119 done...
but i'll give those...
103-
1. DiCamillo
2. Garcia
3. Young
4. Heil
5. Marsico
6. Selmon
7. Shump
8. Noble
DiCamillo has been the class of this 103# class all season long (untill a loss last week) and i don't see that changing this week...sadly it looks like Marsico and Murdock will have to wrestle to place, and that match could go either way...i'll take Marsico, but if murdock pulls it off i think he is 5th...
112-
1. Mines
2. Newhouse
3. Ague
4. Gray
5. Myers
6. Collica
7. Boyd
8. Timchenko
Mines and Newhouse seem to be alittle above eveyone else in this division...i think Newhouse is the better wrestler, but Mines won under these lights last year and i think he does it again...
119-
1. Squire
2. Robinson
3. Caston
4. Ralston
5. Byrd
6. Forrider
7. Disabato
8. Regan
Squire, Robinson, and Caston are worlds better than everyone else here...Ralston is behind them and after him anyone could place in the next four...I have Forrider higher than Disabato based only on draw...as i think he beats Regan and Disabato loses to Byrd the same round...
i just dont think the central district quite stacks up at the lighter weights, although it seems it is getting alittle closer...as the weights get heavier we make up more and more ground... -
SantaCarlaJulio Lopez Caeser should be a contender in the 25 weightclass!!!!!!!
He has one of the best ankle picks I've seen in 20 years -

GoldenBearnice work USMC -- i'll take flea over mines in the 1/4s (112) and languis over shepherd after a brutal semi (140), walker beating taylor for 3rd and Kunzi taking 5 (130).
Good Luck to all the Central Ohio boys...give em hell. -

hizzmutherJust throwing this out there. Dayton Daily News has a great slide show including a pretty good picture of the Flea. Cleveland PD also has a slide show.

upset_125I think it's surprising that some of the predicted champs got upset.

That's kind of why it is called an upset! But yes, very disappointing but very exciting!upset_125 wrote: I think it's surprising that some of the predicted champs got upset.
