Congratulations to the London Wrestling Team

  • emmo739
    State Qualifiers:
    Matt Perez - 1st place at 119
Matt Schram - 2nd place at HWT
    Arron Thompson - 4th place at 125

    Other District Placers:
Keith Carius - 5th place (State Alternate) at 189
    Shane Silvers - 6th place at 160

The team finished 5th overall only one point behind Claymont. By far the best finish and the most state qualifiers for any team in the history of London. Congratulations to Coach Kennedy and Coach Branham on the season so far. Hopefully, it only gets better this week.

Good luck to the three qualifiers - bring home some hardware from the Schott:rolleyes:

Give me a break. LONDON qualified 3 wrestlers to the state tournament yesterday! Thats all that needs to be said. Congratulations Red Raiders.
  • USMCdevil05
That's good for them, but im just saying atleast 2 of them came from Central Crossing, Coach Van Gundy's old team. It's great that they qualified.

Maybe the wrestlers should thank London for having a program and a coach in place at the start of the season that was willing to take them in a give them the opportunity to compete...something SW didn't do. Also, it seems the change in scenery was very helpful to both of the London boys as well as Higgins out at Bradley and Pickett at Westfall. None of them came close to qualifying last year and all have had great seasons (significantly outperforming last year). Maybe, just maybe their new coaches had something to do with that?

Congrats Perez and Schramm. I knew you could do it. Good luck next week and don't be satisfied with just qualifying.

Im not knocking these kids! What they did is great and amazing! Im just saying they came from a good program!
  • Bitterrunner-up
No, you're not knocking the kids, you're knocking their coaches and their programs.
  • USMCdevil05
im not even knocking their coaches. I think there coachs have done a fine job, but if SWCS didn't do what they did, would london have had 3 qualify. Nope don't think so. I'm done arguing with you bitter. Good luck to all of these kids
  • jefft01
What happened to the SWCS kids was terrible. We have accepted these kids into our schools and into our homes and families. What is it that causes the subtle disrespect of these kids and London? Did you think that everyone forgot that we had some kids from SWCS come to London? Oh yeah that's right they couldn't have forgot, because you jealous a-holes keep pointing it out every 10 posts. Give it a rest, you just seem foolish now.

It was a great weekend of district wrestling for the London Red Raiders and a thoroughly enjoyable season if you were a fan of the team. We have a lot to appreciate - our "homegrown" wrestlers" and our wrestlers who transferred to London really blended together and not only became teammates, but friends as well. Many thanks to Coach Kennedy, Coach Branham, and Coach Emrich for all their time and expertise shared with the team. Best wishes to Matt Perez, Matt Schramm, and Arron Thompson at the state tournament. GO BIG RED (jefft01-well said)

No one is jealous! I am not even in your league, division, or area! So by no way am I or anyone else "Jealous" of your team.
  • mrblonde
I am jealous of your team. Three state qualifiers is a pretty good amount. Also, isn't Thompson only a sophomore? I know for a fact he is a homegrown london kid, so something must be going right with the program......
  • Cradleman
I have been around the London team, the kids seem very happy, and there is obvously an atmosphere for success, Congratulations, and good luck at the State Tournament.

USMCdevil05...Whether you meant to or not, and I suspect you meant to, you took a thread that was posted to congratulate and recognize the accomplishments of these wrestlers and injected a slight on their coaches and their program. As if to say that these are somehow Central Crossing's qualifiers. They're not, period.

I'm sure the entire Central Crossing staff followed all their former wrestlers this year, and I know they're proud of them, but the fact is they wrestled for someone else this year, and many of them enjoyed a level of success that they did not achieve at Crossing. Their new coaches and their new environment and their own personal commitments to the sport are what should be celebrated on this thread and nothing else.

If you want to discuss the SWCS levy and what happened, start a new topic. This just isn't the place for it.

CONGRATS TO ALL OF THESE KIDS! Now bitter, are you happy? Can you please shut your mouth now.??? Thank you!
  • emmo739
As the originator of this thread I would like to say a few things. Yes, USMC you are correct. We at London should thank both Coach Van Gundy and Coach Branham (from Westland) for helping build and develop the wrestlers that transfered to London. These kids came to London with a wealth of knowledge. But make no mistake about it, these kids progressed greatly throughout this year and in the end they all did better this year than in previous years. Not one state qualifier transfered to London and now we have three (including a district champ and a district runner-up). Only two district qualifiers transfered to London and this year we had nine. I would say those are pretty good signs that our program helped to develop these kids.

To answer mrblonde's question - Yes, Thompson is only a Sophomore.

I can't wait to watch him and the other two wrestlers compete at the Schott. on Thursday - good luck guys!!!

I agree that Londons coachs have brought this program along way. I made a stupid comment and I shouldn't have. I really didn't mean any harm to these kids or the london program by it. Good Luck to all of these kids

    Thanks USMC

Don't get mad at me because you made a "stupid" comment. All I did was point out the same things emmo739 and others did.
  • USMCdevil05
But you accussed me of doing it on purpose to bring down the kids and their program, and in no way did I intend to do that. But I said my apologies and it's done with.

    Emmo & Pete,

I agree with everything you have said. It was a very good year for London wrestling. It always starts at the bottom, from the biddy program to the middle school and then to the High School. Good wrestlers, good teams and good Coaches are helped out by the prior coaching. The biddy program seems to be in good hands, the Middle School program..well, I know it's in good hands, and it is up to Kennedy & Branham to refine all of that and get these kids over the top.
Congrats to Perez, Thompson and Schramm. Make it count this week.

And also congrats to Colvin & Silvers, each having over 100 career wins, and being DQ multiple times. I'm not slighting the other young men, but I have watched Colvin & Silvers for 4 years and I hope they both have the opportunity to continue on.

Hazlett wrestled hard and just came up a little bit short. All 9 on the
London Red Raiders really put it out on the mat this weekend. There were some exciting matches. Junior Anthony Robinson had a big pin in his first match - he's continually improved and I look to see him and Galo Santos back at districts next year. Sophomore Anthony Thompson, cousin to State Qualifer Arron Thompson, will also be back and likely would have had a good shot at districts this yea, but suffered a
chipped elbow. Great total team effort this weekend!
