Friday Night Fireworks @ Hilliard Darby!!!

I typed this in response to someone's question concerning first and/or second round matches and the idea of upsets.

I created a new thread in order to get peoples thoughts on which matches they are looking forward to and (maybe more importantly) why.

Tough to call upsets in some of these matches. Obviously there are some top-flight talent that if they lost it would be shocking but, IMO, there are so many matches that, again, in my mind, are just going to be tremendous matches regardless of the outcome!!!

Given the timing of some of the matches (this NOT being a normal tournament but rather the District tournament), I look forward to...

    First round:
103: McCurdy (DH) vs. Edwards (OO)... Aside from the fact that Edwards is growing on me, and that I've enjoyed watching McCurdy for a whole season now, I like the fact that at one point in the season both were ranked AND they've wrestled before. For me, it all adds to my own personal build up. Others my be saying, "Cruiser... Who are you TALKING about!?" Well, just one man's take.

119: Hunter (PC) vs. Tuttle (WH)... Hunter is the man. And having watched Tuttle at the sectional tournament, I think this is going to be a match worth watching. If it goes like I think it can, a standing ovation might be in order.

145: Schembri (GL) vs. Hartsell (RB)... again, both are great athletes and know their way around the mat. I think the fact that both are willing to absolutely get after it should make it entertaining. Bout #58 if you're scoring at home. Enjoy!

These are just a few first round matches that I look forward to, and again, it is regardless of outcome.

I'd hope to look at the brackets a bit more to ASSume second round matches.

Actually these two have wrestled twice in the city finals! Both times it was an exciting match!

This will be the 4th time that these two young men get at it on the mat sine the city finals last year. This should be the most exciting math of them all. It’s just too bad that these two have to meet in the first round but that’s how the draw worked out. I for one an really looking forward to this match.

I think Edwards beat McCurdy 11-8 at Big Walnut. Have they wrestled anywhere else this year?
  • cruiser_96
Yes. I'm pretty sure they've wrestled twice this year. And I'm pretty sure both went to Edwards.

But this is Districks! (Just messin' Oney!)

This is the week that crazy things can happen...which is why I like this match up. They've wrestled before and now - finally - I get to see it. The two are great competitors and fireballs for little guys! I hope to enjoy this entire match...regardless of the outcome.

Apparently, weight class 130 has a similar match up ith Leach and Davis (Line 13 and 14). Can't wait!!!

145 Match 62 is peaking my interest.

Freed (Springboro) vs. Thompson (Groveport). I don't know much about Freed, but know he's expected to go far. He better be ready, because Thompson is strong, quick, and technical. He can stay with anybody, and should be a great match! Of course, I'm partial to the 145 class, but will surely enjoy all of the weight classes.

Well, I guess I nailed this one!
