DII Claymont District Predictions Sectional Revised

From the Dispatch...
A quick note: If you see Mark Niemann of Groveport, Matt Hammons of Olentangy and Mike Branham of West Jefferson this weekend, thank them for compiling the area coaches poll. It's not an easy task with wrestlers shifting weights each week, but they work hard to make sure it is accurate and submit the poll each week in a timely fashion.
Wrestling: Division II district at Claymont preview
103: Trevor Fiorucci of Olentangy and Tyler Price of Licking Heights have been the top two guys in the district all season (along with Payton Gutierrez of DeSales). They’ll likely meet in a semifinal with the winner having a good chance to win the district final. Gutierrez could also advance to the final, especially if he gets past Sawyer Leppla of Cambridge in a possible quarterfinal.
112: Anthony McHugh of Olentangy and Josh McGath of Hamilton Township are the best area wrestlers to qualify for state at this weight. It won’t be easy. Rachel Young of Whitehall, the first female wrestler from that school to reach the district, must face projected state champion Andrew Bertubin of Cambridge in the first round. If she pulls the upset, she would get Luke Langdon of Claymont in a quarterfinal. He’s projected to place third.
119: Central Ohio could get four state qualifiers here, starting with Brady Hutchins of Canal Winchester. He could see Jose Parsons of Licking valley in a semifinal. Matt Perez of London has a good chance to place, especially if he gets past Preston Foster of East Liverpool in a quarterfinal. Michael Webber of Olentangy is just 16-3, but could make noise if he beats Cody Wiltshire of Beaver Local in the first round.
125: Al Caserta of Olentangy has a favorable draw to the semifinals where he would probably face Drew Jolley of West Holmes. The other semifinal would likely pair Devin Wohrle of Hilliard Bradley and Aaron Thompson of London, but that’s not a given.
130: One of the best weights at this district. All four potential quarterfinals are intriguing – Kyle Warner of Claymont against Dillon VanDyne of Cambridge; Chris Fusco of Hartley against Galo Santos of London; Logan Tucker of Minerva against Anthony Fosco of Olentangy; and Mike Shephard of Highland against Dillon Bright of Granville. Shephard appears to have the best chance to finish the highest.
135: Look for the winner of a semifinal featuring Eric Wolfe of Licking Heights and Andrew Higgins of Hilliard Bradley to win the district. Wolfe might have a tough quarterfinal against Justin Stitzlein of West Holmes. There are two wild cards at this weight – Ronnie Colvin of London and Tyler Berger of Cambridge. Neither has wrestled many matches (Colvin has 12, Berger 7), but both have proven track records.
140: Alex Strayer of Lakewood is 49-1 and Jordan Ammons of Highland is 43-1. They probably will square off in a semifinal. Those two are likely the favorites in a wide open class. Expect Steven Picklesimon of Jonathan Alder to do well.
145: This class is very top heavy. Just look at the potential quarterfinal between Dylan Ice of Beaver and Conrad Rosch of Canal Winchester. Ice is No. 2 according to the Brakeman report and Rosch, a high state placer last season, is No. 5. Joe Grandominico of Olentangy (projected to finish third) has been sensational all season and should reach the final against either Beaver or Rosch. He has a challenging quarterfinal against Brogan Endres of Dover. Jordan Harble of Licking Valley could get the final state qualifying spot.
152: Another class that has a slew of wrestlers who could advance to the state tournament. No one stands out as a favorite, other than perhaps Luke Worley of Big Walnut, who Brakeman projected to finish fifth at the state tournament. Worley could have a tough quarterfinal against Cody Kucera of Highland. Jordan Bellomy of Canal Winchester and Caleb Hetterscheidt of Olentangy could advance if they get hot as could Chris Baker of Jonathan Alder and Tyler Beckley of Claymont.
160: Just like 152, no one stands out as a favorite in this class. Jarrod Zang of Hartley has put together a solid season and has the best chance from the area contingent to get to the state tournament. Cory Hosom of Lakewood and Shane Silvers of London will contend for a spot as well, but there are some tough matches in this class.
171: This isn’t a strong weight, but there are some quality individuals and most of those are from the East District. Kyle Hazlett of London and Delane King of Lakewood, who is 48-2, have the best chance to advance.
189: Malcolm Burrell of DeSales is a possible champion here, especially if he can recapture his hot streak that he had at Brecksville where he finished second. Bobby Blankenship of Jonathan Alder appears to have a good draw and possibly advance.
215: It wouldn’t be surprising to see Chase Redman of Licking Valley, Evan Jackson of Hartley and Matt Brown of Big Walnut reach the semifinal and be in contention for a spot to the state tournament. Brown would have to beat David Rice of River View to reach the final while Redman and Jackson could be paired up in the other semifinal. The East district wrestlers, namely Jamey Devaul of Steubenville and Mike Wilson of Minerva, could alter those plans.
HVY: This should turn out to be a pretty solid weight class. Central Ohio has four standouts at this weight – Chris Settles of Hamilton Township, Hunter Maynard of Watterson, Matt Schramm of London and Nathan Pressley of Canal Winchester. At least two get to the state tournament, and one might be the winner of the Pressley-Schramm in the quarterfinals. Settles and Maynard would meet in another quarterfinal. The other two spots probably go to Kevin Malone of Carrollton and John Eckroth of Harrison Central.
Team race: Olentangy has fared well in recent years at the Division I district tournament and its success will continue now that it has dropped a division. The Braves appear to have enough to win the team title, but Claymont, Beaver Local and Cambridge will push them. Canal Winchester, Jonathan Alder, Licking Valley and London should reach the top 10, if not top five. -

bigdogdad, take the leash off that pup and kick him off the porch. He can run with the big dogs now. Time to prove it.bigdogdad wrote:
Totally agree with you. It tends to start with civilized conversation then degrades from there i.e. pointing out use of grammer while bunking it up yourself. I always say it is better to be off the radar than to have a giant bullseye on you. The nerves started yesterday and won't stop until Saturday night. If we are lucky, it will continue through next Saturday. There with out a doubt will be some very good wrestling with upsets and people asking 'where did he come from'.hizzmuther wrote: Nobody is counting out anybody. He ranked the four guys who took first at their sectionals. Your kid happened to get the kid who is from what is supposed to be the toughest of the four sectionals in his possible second match. Doesn't mean he is tough, but there are two good indications of skill -- record, and winning his sectional.
Rankings are just for fun... for conversation... so people will bring up other kids and explain WHY they think their kid will get around the others. Then, if you're right, you get bragging rights. It gives us something to do with our nerves and adds to the excitement. Same reason there are rankings in any sport - some even find being left out of the rankings to be motivational. -

Just trying to live by the words of the grand master Hang_Loose. As you know those pups need bitten on the ear to get them to straighten up. Maybe you need to get into his ear. I have a feeling he'll be alright. Just needs to perfect that outside single.hang_loose wrote: bigdogdad, take the leash off that pup and kick him off the porch. He can run with the big dogs now. Dad4SportsDoes anyone know the ticket prices? Will they sell All-Session passes?

raiderrooterBest of luck to the London wrestlers! I'm pretty sure there has never been been 9 DQ's before. Special mention to Ronnie Colvin and Shane Silvers who have grown up with the program, and an old neighbor Arron Thompson!
-
raiderrooterKeep it going RED RAIDERS. London is 2nd overall! London has 4 wrestlers still without a loss. Perez, Thompson, Carius and Schramm (2 PINS). Santos, Silvers, Hazlett & Robinson each won their first match before losing in the 2nd round.
And our friends up north, Jonathan Alder still has 3 undefeated wrestlers. Blankenship, Palmer & Baker. -
HCkidQuick count - looks like 30 semi finalists from the Central and 26 from the East. Looks pretty equal this season, specifically compared to last.
Great quarters tonight. -

the 4-2 over time win by Langdon over Bertubin, makes this one seem like it lived up to the predictions of being a great match.huntergreen wrote: Other great matches on Friday night:
...
112- Langdon vs. Bertubin as state earlier (could be one of the best matches of the weekend)
...
Langdon/Bertubin ... should bring the crowd to their feet.
anyone have any details as to how it unfolded? -
ZombieScramble101Can somone post results or post were to find them please

hizzmutherThe Langdon Bertubom match was great. Especially since the hometown kid walked away with it. I'm pretty sure that it was a last second take down at the end of the first period of overtime at the very edge of themat that ended the match. The Cambridge fans didn't think it was two... but my wrestler said it was definitely two (when Bertubin moved). The crowd did go wild. I have never heard a high school gym that loud over one match. It was very exciting.
At the same time, Peyton G (SFD) was winning his second match which went into multiple overtimes. He pulled it out by riding the kid out. Very exciting also. Too much good wrestling, not enough time to watch it all. -
