Middle School 86 Pound Weight Class Question for Refman
-
Hayabusa1340I have a wrestler who weighs less than 80 pounds. He is not able to beat our 80 pound wrestler in wrestle-offs, but we will be facing a team who has an 86 pounder who my wrestler could probably compete with and I 'd like to get him a match before the year ends. What is the minimum weight that an 86 pounder must weigh to wrestle in that weight class? I've checked the OHSAA rule book and it does not say and this is a little more difficult since there is no weight class less than 80 pounds to use a benchmark (ex. 160 pounder must weigh at least 143). Any help would be appreciated.

girevikIf I'm not mistaken it would be the same as high school. There is no minimum for the lowest weight class and you are allowed to wrestle the next weight class up.

green-dAnyone under 86 can wrestled 86. Our 74 pounder wrestled 86 this year.
-
green-dDoesn't matter if you are under 86 you can wrestle 86. Two classes up from what you weight in is the rule.

This is why I think they should have specific rule book for Jr High.Hayabusa1340 wrote: I have a wrestler who weighs less than 80 pounds. I'd say as long as you, the parent, and the wrestler feel comfortable and safety isn't an issue you're fine. But I'd try to make it against a light 86 if possible. -
Fab1bQuestion for you guys in Ohio, does the OHSAA sanction the middle school wrestling? In Florida, the FHSAA does not. Officials are not responsible for weigh ins and there are no defined weight classes, that is up to the coaches to match the kids up for matches, the officials just call the matches and go home. Officials just get match pay and travel for middle school events.

It's confusing, but it's 1 weight class up. 0-80 = 80, you are also able to wrestle 86. -
