This year's tourney was a tough one. Honestly, any of the top five teams had a legitimate shot at winning it.
On a negative note, IMO, poor decision by the OCC to not have medals for the placers nor trophies for the top three teams.

This was done by the high school principals I believe. It was done for ALL SPORTS AT ALL LEVELS! So... Yes very poor choice.

It was not done for all sports in all levels. I know for a fact that the high school fall sports got medals for first team second team and honorable mention.

Did they give league trophies though?

Those all league patches and everything are paid for by the school. They said if the school wanted to pay for their own things they could. This is what I was told in our winter sports coaching meeting.

I'm sure they told you that. All I know is the "high school" level gave out medals for first, second, and honorable mention(3rd). I cant tell you if they passed out trophies for teams or not. Sorry, I wish I had more info.

I was told by a coach that the explanation given to him was that they thought middle school was becoming too competitive.
Also, everyone's record on the brackets was 0-0. When I asked about that I was told it was because some kids records were not very good and it would save them embarassment.

Kids can still be seeded in the coaches meeting and put into brackets without records being printed on the bracket.

We were told the same about the 0-0 records in the coaches meeting. They had all the records to look at if the coaches were upset about seeding and what not.
I don't know what else to say about the situation. It was in bad taste in my opinion. I do not know who or what brought up this idea but I know that the Jr. High level had zero say in it. It was all done by the high school reps.

As far as I know. The OCC is not supplying any school at any level with any type of rewards. Everything that is being handed out is at the expense of the schools and up to each individual school district in how they want to handle the situation. This is what I've been told. I talked with a few of the other coaches about it this weekend and from what I heard we've all been told this and are on the same page. Do we agree with it?!?! I'd say the consensus is no. Hopefully it changes next year.

My son got a OCC award in a varsity sport this yr. it is shaped like the state of ohio says ohio cardnial conference on it with a cardnial on it too. so yes they are at the high school level. i dont know who is saying this stuff to you but i know for a FACT they are at the "HIGH SCHOOL" level. no patch, ribbon, it a medal. that is a FACT. period.

My son got a medal at the OCC middle school tournament at Wooster, but they were bought by an individual and the OCC was not happy. He also got an OCC medal each year at the high school tournament. They are gold, silver, and bronze for placement.

    Fromafar,

There will be no awards from the OCC at the tourney this weekend at the high school level. (The host school might print out a bracket for the winners I've been told...) There hasn't been any awards paid for by the OCC this year on any level. High school or Jr. High. So the award your son got is from the school and not the OCC like years past. The schools are allowed to issue awards using the OCC logo and everything else involved with it. This is due to a lack of funds within the conference. This just went into effect for 09-10 school year. I got confirmation on this issue this evening when I questioned a couple other people who had a greater knowledge of the details.

I will find out tomorrow since I will be going to the school to talk to the AD. for other business. I dont know where you are getting your info from but I will get it from the horses mouth and let you know. But as for awards go I do know for a fact that my son got his award in the fall for his fall sport. Its on his wall right now.

LOL. Ok. I'm not doubting he didn't get it. I'm just saying that it didn't come from the OCC itself. They are still "awarding" 1st/2nd/3rd/ect team individuals but they aren't paying for the plaques and stuff. If the OCC did in fact pay for it, then I'd like to know how/what/why because it's not supposed to be like that. It is supposed to be all on the schools dime. If it is the case then I'm sure our AD's would like to know so they don't have to shell out any extra money. Feel free to personal message me with your findings. I'm very curious.

    results from high school meet????
  • Flash
Orrville last -1 champ at Heavyweight. Raber didn't wrestle. 2-3 placed 3-4th.
  • Mr. 300
Not showing records on the brackets????? You're kidding me.

Counter in the fact that the OCC didn't have a middle school basketball tournament because the coaches decided the lesser teams didn't want whacked by the higher seeds. They held a feel good round robin 3 gamer that meant absolutely nothing.

    I'm living in a world I don't understand anymore.

Is anyone else getting tired of our politically correct education system that discourages excellence so no one feels bad....records not on brackets is ridiculous...let's keep striving for mediocrity for all..Congratulations to Clearfork wrestlers and their coaches for an excellent showing.

Watching the Olympics and they only give out one gold medal for 1st place!?! Don't they care about the feelings of those athletes who finished second, third, fourth?
