Okay, I've been reading this post for two days and can see both sides of some issues, but I have to admit this made me laugh.

    It can be a benefit.

If it's a close match and the opposing team has a stud that they have to send out first it might make sense to forfeit if you have a kid who is a sure fire pin/tech fall. The points are still the same yes but a lot of their momentum is taken away. They don't get the adrenaline rush of a teammate dominating a kid and then when the forfeit is over one of their leaders and best wrestlers (presumably since he's a stud) is upset about making weight for nothing so he's skulking and angry for at least 1 match.

Momentum, it's about momentum. You let the stud pin or tech your wrestler and their next wrestler comes out with a burst of energy and confidence.

As to the girl wrestler argument: It's awkward to wrestler a girl yes, and getting beat by one would be embarrassing. But not wrestling a girl would be pretty embarrassing too, I know I would have made fun of a kid that was "afraid" to wrestle a girl.

Now you want to do it for tech falls too?
A tech is only 5 points, a forfeit is 6.
    Where does it stop?
What is next, not even keeping score?

Even a girl who is a "stud"?
"afraid" to wrestle is "afraid" to wrestle, regardless of the gender of the wrestler.

The ones who should be made fun of are the COACHES who are "Afraid" to let the kids wrestle.

I disagree...the one who should be made fun is Shoot n Sprawl for starting such whiny thread. Just par for the course....

I would be upset also , if a kid weighed in and made weight then he didn't wrestle that stinks...A lot of kids work hard and want matches not forfeit's. jmo

Shoot and Sprawl, what started as an honest inquiry now seems like whining.

There are reasons to forfeit matches that you have bodies available otherwise you wouldn't see coaches doing it. And I'm not talking about coaches of below average or average teams but coaches of teams that year in and year out compete at a high level.

Do you complain when a football team kneels the clock out at the end of the half/game?

i think he just needs something to whine about, since he spent that hard earned money, and didn't get to see any wrestling. there are several different reasons to forfeit kids, but i thought he would know that since he has coached before.

This was a fantastic debate... Loved reading it

i just read through this debate and it seems to me the people complaining about it have no reason to. they can choose to wrestle their kid any way they want and vice versa. i personally think a dual situation is all about strategy. if a coach thinks its in the best interest for the victory of his team to forfeit his kid then he should go ahead and do it. there was a situation over the summer where a coach sent out a wrestler against a state placer on the other team and had him default as soon as the match started just to take the kid out of the mix. he did this knowing he had to send a kid out against that kid or theyd bump him up to wrestle there own state wrestler and risk losing which would cost more points for his team so the most likely way to win. i worded that the best i could so sorry if it confusing
