Trey Jacobs quits West Holmes program.

Mr. 300Wow, had no idea this happened until today's paper.
He transfers down from Triway as a freshman to be apart of the areas best program, and now 1/2 through his senior year, bails out. Sad to hear, but it's his decision. -

Joe DaughertyRaber at 160. Makes 171 a little easier.

fan63It's easy for arm chair quarterbacks to judge him. Every old guy has something to say, me included, but give the guy respect for his accomplishments and wish him well. Remember, this sport is just as much about being ready to compete mentally as well as physically. My best wishes for Trey, this isn't an easy road.

snugglyhippo"...this isn't an easy road. " You are right fan63 if you are referring to life in general. In general, one should not quit something half way through. Your right, it is easy to judge him from behind a computer, but it is my experience for the most part that once a person quits that first time, in wrestling, baseball, checkers, connect four, whatever, it then becomes easy to quit something else. Maybe it was becasue he was 12-5 and facing a tough year. Maybe he was struggling to cut weight (I know he went down pretty far a couple years ago to 130?), who knows. I hope he reconsiders. I will say one big thing positive about the kid. The article says he informed his team. That means he had the sack to face them all and tell them why to their faces, and I do respect that.

First off I never mentioned Trey!
Read it again with your spectacles on!
2nd of all I am not a arm chair quater back. I competed and did rather well at St. Johns, and continue to coach from the front row! Before you go flying off the handle you should check yourself. Prior to my post no one said anything bad or malicious about Trey. And neither did I.
It seems you may be a little on edge and defensive. -
fan63I thought this thread was about Trey. I never disreprected you, Joe. My intension was to explain his choice. Did it come off that harsh?

I bow out on this one. I pick my fights and this isn't going to be the one.fan63 wrote: I thought this thread was about Trey. I never disreprected you, Joe. My intension was to explain his choice. Did it come off that harsh? -
Joe DaughertyFirst off it's not a fight. Yes, you came off a little tuff. I personally never down on a kid or put anyone down. I think as adults we can always talk rationally about any situation. We all hpope that Trey does well in what ever situation he has and I have no idea what it is. I played football from 7 years old until my senior year. I did not play my senior year and cought a ton of flack for it. I know what Trey is feeling in regards to peoples reaction to him leaving. I would imagine that if he could make it work he would. It is sad that he has given so much time to a sport that he loves and for what ever reason must stop. Good luck to Trey in every direction he turns, I am sure of one thing, he will be a better person from what he has learned from wrestling. I have no problem if you don't. If you know Trey personally , please tell him good luck.

I'm curious, is this the only post you had up until your most recent? I'm confused? If so, you never mentioned Trey Jacobs. Why would you think Fan63 was attacking you? Please, I'm not trying to start anything, just don't understand why you are upset. Did I miss something?Joe Daugherty wrote: Raber at 160. Makes 171 a little easier. -
fan63That was it from me. I wasn't sure either, but there's a lot of emotion involved, so I didn't want to make it worse.

lowsingle174I agree with Snuggly Carney. It is easy to quit, BUT the young man had the intestinal fortitude to face his team like a man. Good luck with whatever else you choose young man.

I was the fourth post after it started. No one else mentioned anything malicious. Since fan63 posted after me , I figured it was directed at me. If fan 63 did not direct the comments to me, then who was he, as no one else had said anything. Maybe it is me that is flying off the hook. If so , please except my apologies.matdad wrote:

fan63It was just a general comment based on personal experience, and a reminder to me not to judge kids, including my own. No apologies neccessary, my thinking is a little abstract sometimes (:

Joe DaughertyAs you can now see so is mine!
I hope Trey does well. -
falcon81Good luck to Trey , the Nelson 's wish him the best . Some times a man needs to do or not do something that only he knows or understands. Iam sure it must of been a tough decision .
There are other sites out there that would have posters jumping down this kids throat and piling on under the name "guest". I personally am going to give my best effort to avoid that site as tempting as it is to respond to such low lifes . Lets always remember that these are unpaid Hs athletes just trying to be their best while still dealing with grades, hormones, family pressures, peer presures, weight controle, and prefomance pressures. Shame on the cowards who namelessly pile on usually just over spite and envy , sadly mostly adults. -
fan63I completely agree. I've watched Trey for a few years and especially thought last year he showed more heart than anyone at conference and the post season. If anyone thought I was slamming him or Joe, I wasn't at all. I've been in the same situation and just commented that he shouldn't be judged to harshly. I guess I wasn't clear. I do wish the best for the young man, this isn't going to be easy.

I Wear PantsHilarious misunderstandings aside, it's too bad about that kid. Hopefully he'll be okay with his decision in a few months/years/forever. Not that high school wrestling is a life defining thing or anything like that. I just hope he feels he made the right choice now and in the future because that kind of regret sucks.
