D1 Central Darby District Seed/Draw Meeting
-
CthelitesOK D2 has one so let's get the D1 show going!
-
wingman87thOk, well can we get it started with an explanation as to how it goes? How many sectionals in Central Ohio? I've heard that some Dayton teams can head this way, but not sure how it all works for sure. Thanks for any help.
-
cruiser_96Alright, here we go... (for Division I)
The Central District (ie. DI teams inside or darn near I-270, including Logan, Lancaster, Mt. Vernon and Marysville) has three (3) sectionals. This year they will be located at Westland, Pickerington Central and Watkins Memorial.
WHY ARE WE SHOOTING 3-POINTERS!?!?!?!?!?!?! Whatever, dude.
Which teams go to which sites will be chosen on Sunday, January 31st, 2010...THIS Sunday. The top four (4) from each sectional advance to the district tournament, hosted by Hilliard Darby.
Now, if you've done the math, you'll notice that there are only 12 wrestlers advancing! "What's up with that," you ask. Well, 4 multiplied by 3 is 12, so we need 4 more individuals to complete the 16 man bracket. So, we draw from one of the 2 Dayton area sectionals. One of the sectionals is predetermined to be the travelling sectional. So when schools from the Dayton area opt for that sectional, they know indeed that they'll be travelling the following week. (As with all sectionals in the state, the top 4 wrestlers advance to the district tournament. And there are our missing 4!!!)
Now, concerning "SEEDING" the district tournament. It doesn't happen. All four sectional champs get paired with the fourth place finishers from another (randomly drawn) sectional. And, you guessed it, the 2nds go with the 3rds.
Hopefully that clears it up. Iff not, bravesman will help you. -
CthelitesHow bout the individual seeding for the sectionals?
When do the Dayton schools pick?
Thanks for the great info Cruiser! -
cruiser_96Seeding for individuals will take place Feb. 18????????? I'll say this... It takes place before more than a day before the sectional tournament. It's not like we gather on Friday to talk about what's about to happen in less than 12 hours.
As for the Dayton sectional that travels, the teams will most likely select on Sunday as well, but it might be the week later. I'm sure someone knows for sure these dates, but I'm not 100% positive on it. So, I'll give vague answers - and next to obvious answers at that! - in order to appear to give some info, when in actuallity, I've given no answer at all.
Should I move to Washington!? -

Bitterrunner-upCruiser...Do you figure the "Big Three" of Pickerington North, Teays Valley and Marysville will go to different Sectionals?

That would be great till I turn on C-SPAN and he has the house quoting 80's movies and singing "whip it" be Devo during a filibuster over a proposed bill that would outlaw the hijacking of public forums in regards to high school sports.
Sorry to get off topic cruiser. What sectional are you guys going to and how many kids are you bringing??? -

I assume the district tournament director uses something like this:

Randomly assign Dayton, Watkins, Westland and Pick C to A,B,C & D.....presto....instant brackets. -
zambrownBravesman, unless Cruiser has an inside track, none of us will know which sectional we'll be attending until Sunday (1/31) when they do the team seeding meeting.
Bitter, I'll defer to the Great Cruiser on this, but my two cents would be that, yes, they will each choose a different sectional. It'll be interesting to see who ends up where...Cruiser...Do you figure the "Big Three" of Pickerington North, Teays Valley and Marysville will go to different Sectionals? -

CthelitesI asked this on the D2 District thread.
Question for the educated masses out there.
Why is the state tournament qualifiers called sectionals and districts?
Isn't the district really a regional with only 4 in the state?
I've always wondered about that. -
Bitterrunner-upCthelites...The old format, which was Districts feeding into four Regional tournaments was switched to this format (Sectionals feeding Districts) after the 1987 season. It was a change of titles more than anything else. Before the switch it was called the Mentor Regional and after it was called the Mentor District. As far as why only four in the state, that's to fit the 16-man bracket format the Ohio State Tourney runs. If you ran a 32-man bracket, you'd have eight Districts/Regions. For a brief time in the late'80s/early '90s there were five Districts in Division I. But in order to fit the 16-man bracket, some Districts took less than four to the state tourney. Also, in every bracket two District champs met in the quarter-finals of the State Tourney. With no seeding, I know it happend that what should have been the state final took place in that quarter-final match.

cruiser_96Okay, okay, okay... A lot of stuff thrown at me but here goes...
Bravesman... I checked with Hank Zaborniak, Cal Adams and Tony Campolo... We have received clearance to attend any sectional Lewis Center Olentangy attends in order to "catch a salmon." All three wanted me to catch and kill. The only problem is that when salmon spawn, they SPAAAAAAWN!!!! Killing one leads to 17 more.
As for which sectional we WILL go to, it'll come down to one of three. The only hint I'm giving is that it WILL BE an OCC school. As for the number we bring... it'll be a prime number. I'll be surprised if it is not.
Oh, and Devo??? I don't think so. A bunch of one-hit wonders. I'm more of a Milli Vanilli fan.
Bitter: I think it ends up 2 at one, 1 at another and the third being vacant of the Big Three. I'm not sure at which sectional any of these teams will go to but, IMHO, Dublin Coffman makes a run, Davidson shows up in force and the team that wins the "other" sectional has an okay day at Darby.
Dad4Sports: It is 13 per. If there are thirteen already on the borad, say, at Westland when it is time for Marysville to pick, and they want Westland, they get it. Not because it is Shawn Andrews (although that would be reason enough ) but because the higher ranked teams get preferential treatment. This ultimately happens by knocking the lowest team out of the Westland sectional and into another one, via choice or locality.
Cthelites: The last person to ask that question is no longer around. Watch yourself. -
lion69The reason we have districts is that the money stays with the district boards if we went to regionals the money would go to the state. Due to this situation the officials are paid different for different districts. its all about the money. In Track they get district championship trophies and go to the regionals. In wrestling they don't.

I heard that Pickerington North was staying close to home for this one...zambrown wrote: Bravesman, unless Cruiser has an inside track, none of us will know which sectional we'll be attending until Sunday (1/31) when they do the team seeding meeting.

USMCdevil05I think PIck North will go with MArysville to try and see there kids the week of sectionals and then try to cross bracket away fromthem at the district tourney. Just an opinion.

Dad4SportsDoes anyone think that the seed voting will be appreciably different from the last coaches poll?
