raiderrooterLast year, the Worthington Kilbourne Wolves for the tournament for the 2nd consecutive year (might actually be 3 in a row).
This years teams are: Madison Plains, Brookhaven, Worthington Kilbourne, Northeastern, Logan Elm, Paint Valley, Whetstone, and the host London Red Raiders.
This is wrestled in 2 pools of 4, round robin. The top two finishers move on to the Championship bracket of 4 wrestlers, and the other wrestlers are in the consolation bracket. As long as the pools fill, each wrestler will get the maximum 5 matches for the day. -
huntergreenGonna be hard to beat the Raiders in this one. They are tough as nails!

TomahawkThis is a very well ran tournament. LE seems to be on a rebuilding season, but those things happen. Last years team did graduate some quality talent. Peter Laux imo will do great in this one and should repeat. Raider again thanks for all the kind words concerning the past LE wrestlers as well as my son Corey (4X champ). Keep up the great work and here's to noone getting injured!
NO GUTS NO GLORY! -
raiderrooter"This is our best chance to win our own tournament, in the eight years that I have been here", London's wrestling Coach David Kennedy recently said.
The London Red Raiders have had seven individuals win a tournament this year, and the Red Raiders, as a team, also won the Circleville tournament earlier this year. The win in Circleville was the first win under Coach Kennedy.
Even though Kennedy is optimistic about his teams chances, he knows that the road to the Championship will go right thru the Worthington Kilbourne Wolves.
The Wolves have been entered in the Harry Steel Classic for the last two years and have won both times. Last year Kilbourne had 11 wrestlers place in the top four spots, including three individual champions. The year before the Wolves narrowly defeated Logan Elm and Northeastern who tied for 2nd.
This years edition of the Classic includes the aforementioned teams, and Whetstone, Brookhaven, Paint Valley and Madison Plains.
For London, their hopes are well founded in this years results, and in past results.
At 103 Anthony Thompson is 11-4 on the year and won the Logan Elm tourney.
Matt Perez, at 125 pounds, was a District Qualifier (DQ) last year, and won Circleville and Logan Elm.
Aaron Thompson won both of those tournaments, and the 130 pounder is 14-3 on the year. Thompson was also a DQ last year.
At 135, Galo Santos was also a DQ last year, and is 15-3 this season, with wins at Logan Elm and Circleville.
Shane Silvers, at 160, sports a 13-4 record. Silvers is the lone returning Harry Steel Champ for the Red Raiders. Silvers is also a 2 time District Qualifier.
Kyle Hazlett will wrestle at 171 for London, Hazlett won at Logan Elm last week, and has an impressive 13-2 record.
In the 189 class, Keith Carius, has a record of 13-5. Carius was a DQ last season, and also took the trophy last week at Logan Elm.
Anthony Robinson, at 215, has shown marked improvement of late, as he finished 3rd at Logan Elm last week.
Matt Schramm, the big boy in the lineup, literally and figuratively, has the teams best record. In his 16-2 mark, both losses came in tournament finals, but he also placed 1st in the 32 team field at North Canton.
Silvers, Schramm, Perez and Hazlett are also the top ranked wrestlers in the District in the most recent coaches poll. Carius and Santos are each ranked 3rd.
Senior Ronnie Colvin will miss his final home tournament since he is injured. Colvin is twice a District Qualifier and a former Classic Champ.
Worthington Kilbourne and Northeastern are both bringing strong teams and are expected to contend.
The Kilbourne Wolves have six individuals who have won tournaments this year, and are led by Andrew Taylor. The 130 pounder won the Classic last year, and also qualified for the District tournament. He was also the winner at the Tournament of Champions at Kilbourne, and Upper Arlington.
The Northeastern Jets have five DQ's, including 2 time qualifier Marcus Reeder. Reeder won the Classic in 2008 and was a runner up last year.

-
cruiser_96I''d love to see 3rd and 4th results. 5th and 6th if possible!
-
Pete4HOF
Silvers did not wrestle - injury. Colvin was out due to injury earlier in the season. Hazlett placed 3rd in a tough 171 class. Schramm did not wrestle in the championship match for heavyweight due to an ankle injury. With those guys all healthy - London might have captured 1st place. Great effort by the entire team yesterday!pioneersfan wrote: Where was Shane Silvers the 160 from London? or Kyle Hazlett? -
