Would love to read the article but I'm not paying a dime to the Dispatch. It wants me to subscribe to read it and that's not going to happen.

    I'll give you the 411:

    * He mans up and admits that the pressure of state got to him and he "choked" (his words).

    * Says he will make amends this year.

    * Only took up wrestling as a Freshman and mainly to help make him better for football.

    * Has had great success in football, as well (first team All-District...70 tackles, including 14 for loss, 5.5 sacks and four forced fumbles).

    * Football has always been his favorite sport, but he now really loves wrestling too.

    * Hasn't decided which he will do (or where) at the next level. Has options. Waiting until after the State Tournament to decide.

[Kudos to the Dispatch for doing the article. Would like to see more of them. One point of clarification is due, they describe his round 1 loss (to Bonner) as coming against a guy who "didn't even place at State". While technically true, it way undersells Bonner. He was a cagy 2x State placer who only failed to place last year due to a torn ACL and injury default after the Teacher match]

Agree that it's one of the better wrestling articles I've seen in there. Looking forward to seeing him the state tourney.

And, um ... I'm pretty sure you can just click on the link and read the article ... at least that worked for me.

Great young man that unlike many in this day and age can own his actions and is willing to put in the work to change the previous outcome good luck Kam you give your school, coaches and teammates all you got can't wait to see how you finish up!

When I hear stories of kids having trouble dealing with the crowd at the state tournament it reminds me of the conversation I always had with my wrestlers before competing there. There are indeed a lot of people at the state tournament, however the reality is that so few are watching you. You will have your family, a few people from your school and a few other people from your area, but that's about it. Don't believe me, wait until a match ends and ask random people how did (any name) do, and I guarantee you they will say they don't know. Very likely the kid has had more eyes directly on him in a good dual meet or just some tournament finals than at the state tournament. The only exception would be wrestling in the semi's or finals (by that time the atmosphere jitters should be gone), or when the announcer directs eyes to a particular mat of a returning state champion, but I believe in all other rounds, including place rounds this holds true, and I think when kids truly understand this they are better able to relax and get after it.

If I am correct the last hwt Champ from the southwestern city school district was a FRANKLIN HEIGHTS wrestler Larry angles in 1995 52-0 with zero take downs given up that year. I would love for Kam to beat shoot in the final but Kevin Shoot aka vough has been wrestling all over the country since he was a little kid and I think shoots experience wins out. That being said if anyone can beat shoot it will be Kam with his constant pressure and his quick feet. I hope he can push the pace for every second and drag Shoot into deep water and score late on him. That is how I see Kam pulling off the upset.
