112in84Who were the D1 coaches that voted for this ?

All D-I coaches are emailed a ballot. I'm not sure who actually fills them out though. The results are then tabulated and sent along.112in84;1774730 wrote:Who were the D1 coaches that voted for this ?
Is this similar to or different than how you see it? -
westsiderWell, I see a few glaring mistakes. Collins from CCHS is 120, definitely not 106 and Leaply from CCHS is 152 or 160, definitely not 145. Couple of others, has Volpe even wrestled this season? Let alone at 126, I keep seeing people from around the state rank him there but I have only seen Furnas wrestle that spot. Also, Demas is ranked 1 at 138 when he has only wrestled 145 and word is that is where he is staying.
-
cruiser_96The ballot I received had Volpe/Furnas (OL). I suspect only one name got in.
-
ksig489Coaches were asked at the beginning of the year to submit names for ranking. I wonder if the coaches from those schools know where their kids plan on being later in the year and submitted them at those weights.
As for Collins...I think I remember seeing a Collins listed at 2 of the lower weights. Are there brothers? -
westsiderOnly one Collins at CCHS and he will be 120 all season.
-
huntergreen26The Collins mistake was my fault and will be corrected by next week. Coach Ramirez e-mailed me and alerted me of the mistake and I forgot to change it. As for the rest, Coach Andrews puts the names on where they have been nominated. Maybe they will be different in the future, however, out of the 47 D1 schools in Central Ohio, only 17 have voted. It is hard for us to know some of the mistakes.
-
westsiderI know everyone appreciates the effort, any exposure is good exposure, right? Wrestling needs all the love it can get and we all know that the dispatch does not provide much information for the sport we all love and follow.
-
Dad4SportsNote to D3 coaches...D3 team rankings
#8 Ready defeated #5 Northridge in a head-to-head dual by the score of 51-18
#8 Ready finished second to #3 Pleasant at the E Knox tournament...margin was 6 points -

That is freaking SAD! Basically one third of the coaches in the CD turned in their votes?...that's freaking EMBARRASSING!huntergreen26;1774781 wrote:The Collins mistake was my fault and will be corrected by next week. I know some coaches do not vote because they don't see alot of the teams or wrestlers that are nominated. In our case (Columbus West) we have only seen (of the top teams nominated) Hilliard Davidson and Westerville North.Cthelites;1774860 wrote:That is freaking SAD! HOWEVER, it doesn't take alot of time to look up some results or shoot an email to your trusted central ohio wrestling consigliere (wise sherpa cruiser) to figure out what is what in the OCC.
So rock the vote people! -
ksig489I vote every week...I don't know all of the kids but between ITC and looking up results I feel like I am educated enough to vote.

IMO, if you're a head coach it then follows that one of your duties is to follow through on this kind of stuff. We're not talking tons of time...huntergreen26;1774781 wrote: Maybe they will be different in the future, however, out of the 47 D1 schools in Central Ohio, only 17 have voted. It is what it isagree!

ksig489While I do vote every week...I disagree with the statement that it is your responsibility to vote. The Dispatch poll is in no way shape or form part of any coaches job description. It is nothing but an opinion poll anyway. The only thing that head coaches are responsible for is putting their wrestlers in the best position to win matches and to teach them life skills to be a productive adult. Polls are worthless anyway because we do not award a "paper champion". All the polls are for is so people have something to talk about on the internet.
-
cruiser_96I agree that it is not under our "responsibility" tab but we are fools not to help promote the very sport we are involved in.

Most of the best employees and co-workers I have ever had didn't limit their actions to what "is in their job description". Kind of a low bar to set for oneself, in my opinion.ksig489;1775282 wrote:I disagree with the statement that it is your responsibility to vote. I don't disagree that Polls ultimately aren't what matters, but that doesn't mean they don't have value. -

ksig...I get where you are coming from. Maybe a better term to use would have been "obligation" rather than duty.ksig489;1775282 wrote:While I do vote every week...I disagree with the statement that it is your responsibility to vote. After seeing what these student athletes go through...I'm continually blown away by these kids. IMO, wrestling is MUCH more demanding than any of the other sports. And you could argue that in most cases they toil in anonymity. I feel it would be my obligation to promote my sport, and my wrestlers whenever I could. -
Tony MeadI still cant figure out why anyone needs to vote on anything, votes are inaccurate or absence. stats are facts ITC and many other places around the internet has everything one needs to know mostly organized due to who beats who. its 2016 one of these days you guys are gonna figure this out! Central Ohio is so hellbent on voting, ITC and others do all the legwork. Would be so easy to research and print!

Maybe in D1...not so much with D3, and to a lesser extent, D2.Tony Mead;1775306 wrote:Would be so easy to research and print! -
Tony Meadi agree with that, but you could start at the CD all star meet and gather other rankings around the state along with the one link that list almost everything in central ohio at the ITC page. I would request the coaches to pay more attention on getting the results into ITC or whoever wants to make them public then worrying about a voting process or a popularity process. you dont vote the steelers into the playoffs their stats got them their (o;

ksig489The idea of promoting and the obligation to do what I can for the hard working kids in our sport is why I vote. But I will never condemn another coach for not voting in what is ultimately a meaningless poll. The kids will always work it all out on the mat regardless what the pools say.
And I accepted a long time ago that no matter what we do...wrestling will always be the most under appreciated sport and will continue to exist on the outskirts of popular media coverage. It is almost a badge of honor that we do what we do not for glory and recognition but for self respect and the sense of accomplishing our own goals. -
