Memo to Coaches
-
112in84Coaches please call/e-mail your results in.Please coaches it is part of your duty to report the results to the local paper, twitter, or Facebook. Even if you lose a tough match and are upset, you still must call or e-mail the results in. If you are unable to do it delegate it to an assistant coach, mat stat, or parent that you trust.
Quit blaming the dispatch, yes we know the dispatch sucks when it comes to coverage for sports like wrestling and baseball…But do your job!
Thanks, sorry if this offends anyone. -
cruiser_96Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cruiser_96Send them to itc (dot) rankings (at) gmail (dot) com - Inside The Circle will put them on its website.

snugglyhippoYou are certainly welcome to your opinion. I am not offended. However, a couple points.
1. Don't tell others what their job is. We all have different accountabilities, goals and expectations set by our superiors. For you to presume to know them all is ridiculous.
2. The Dispatch is, to me, beyond an outdated form of media and has proven they are not to be taken seriously as a form of information. Many times have I called in and e-mailed results in the format requested only to see either: 1. My results not run, 2. Run incorrectly, or 3. Be shortened or abbreviated. For instance, I call in full results, they run the team scores. Oh, I know they claim they run everything they get. They do not. These are the same people who will not cancel your subscription unless you threaten legal action. I choose not to deal with them.
3. I post to Twitter, Ohio Chatter and all of our teams individual results are on Trackwrestling for anyone to view. Anybody who can't find them on these three forms of media is too busy sitting by a fire eating Werthers original candy drinking a warm glass of Metamucil while Frankie Avalon plays on the radio quietly. -
112in84snugglyhippo , are you a Head Coach ???
If so, part of being a head coach to report results from matches. -
Dust_E_RoadsSnug - I don't disagree with a lot of what you say, but I do think it is important to get the results into a medium that the casual fan sees. What I mean by this is the non-wrestling fan at the school or in the community who might be interested in seeing the results. They aren't going check TrackWrestling or Twitter and shouldn't have to.
By point of example, last year I bumped into a baseball parent from our school and he said, "Hey I saw in the Dispatch that wrestling team had a close one last week and your boy won". He probably hasn't been to wrestling match in years, but he does read the Dispatch every morning. There are some dinosaurs like that still in this world.
Likewise, I'm interested in seeing how the school's baseball, basketball, and volleyball teams do. I don't want to have to go out to various Twitter feeds to find the results. If other sports can do it with regularity, why not wrestling? -
112in84^^^^^Bingo
The grandparents don't have time to check out trackwrestling or Kap wrestling. But they do read the paper every morning. -
lion69Is it still [email protected]. I sent in results at 10:30 the other night and nothing. I suppose that we have to have it by 10 and as Lou Berliner told me that a day late is old news so he wouldn't put it in. Lou Berliner man am I old.

snugglyhippo112in84. Yes I am a head coach. And you are assuming my job is to report to The Dispatch. I outlined how I report results. If they are not what you think is appropriate, that's fine, I don't work for you. As for Grandparents, I suppose that is an ok point. In my opinion, the Dispatch is a worthless rag that needs to go the way of the Dodo and the dinosaurs.
-
cruiser_96The CDWCA has reached out the dispatch. The word I received was that results that are sent in will go to the online version and may go into the print version.
Id still like to see a story along with rankings every Tuesday. Stories could be about team, individual, upcoming events, write-up concerning a dual or tournament that just occurred.
Snuggly: I don't take too much issue with what you typed I just agree with the OP a whole lot more. Plus, I know that we are trying to work together with the Dispatch so if like to see things progress on that front. -

At this point in my life, I'm a casual wrestling fan. In fact, my main news source for wrestling is @cruiser96 on twitter. I do not subscribe or read the Columbus Dispatch. My parents (60/61 years old) are casual wrestling fans to the point they'll ask me how my alma mater is doing and ask if they would know anyone. The last time I paid attention, they only got the Sunday Dispatch. And I bet they don't even get that anymore as I haven't noticed a newspaper at their house in a long time.Dust_E_Roads;1768890 wrote:Snug - I don't disagree with a lot of what you say, but I do think it is important to get the results into a medium that the casual fan sees. On your side of the debate, my parents are going to the social media outlets to look for results.
I'll say I'm ignorant to newspapers, but isn't the Dispatches readership dropping? As Snuggly Hippo said, it's a dying medium.
My parents will glance through ThisWeek paper.
I also know a now-retired Dispatch employee who says with new ownership/leadership, it's REALLY going downhill.
What stake do you have in the Dispatch that you feel IT has to be the source? -

A strawman argument wrapped around an ad hominem is best you can do? Insinuating that I have some vested interested in the Dispatch and then suggest I asserted that the Dispatch has to be thee source?hasbeen;1768929 wrote:At this point in my life, I'm a casual wrestling fan. No stake in the Dispatch. Dying isn't the same thing as dead. And if the medium itself is dying, that doesn't bode well for ThisWeekNews does it? .
I merely suggested that, in my opinion, a coach putting the results on Twitter and Track is not necessarily sufficient coverage. I think our kids (and our sport) deserves better. If you disagree, rock on. -
newbie75Also, with the Track Wrestling they have a way to where you can add emails from media outlets so once your events is completed. All you have to do is simply hit send. Easy!! I have both the Dispatch and ITC(DOT)rankings (at) gmail (DOT) com!!

That sounds like a solution everyone should be able to live with.newbie75;1768953 wrote:Also, with the Track Wrestling they have a way to where you can add emails from media outlets so once your events is completed. Probably well appreciated by the various media outlets too, since it is a uniform format. -

snugglyhippoI had no idea you could link in track like that. I just linked and sent them in 30 seconds. Thanks, that was helpful.
