OCC Tournament

  • wraith51
Next few posts are a "by the numbers" entry grid for each division. If each division held it's own tournament the entry grid would like this (I used entries from sectionals because that was the quickest/easiest way to find everybody in one spot, but if this was a mid-season tournament those numbers would be very different). Again, as you'll see it's just entry grid style not brackets like Cruiser put together.

1/3 rd with a full lineup (probly worse any other time of the year) These are mainly the largest schools in central ohio, and we are so hellbent on duals.......SMH....... Again dont get me wrong, I love a good dual, Mandated duals are just stupid. Id rather see state duals mandated then these "occ" duals.

To your point, even mid-season some teams may not be full strength with guys down to proper weight yet, football injuries, etc. I know I wasn't full strength until sectionals and even then I was still missing a key starter to a season ending injury, though his back-up still ended up being a district qualifier, having someone that should have made state in the line-up would be a big difference in points in tournaments.

Then you have a team like Canal Winchester who like 2 weeks before sectionals had I think 8-10 guys in the St. Charles tournament when we saw them, but only ended up with 6 come post-season.

Point of note: Teams are mandated to schedule four 1 point events on a 20 point shedule. If a coach so chooses, he could schedule 16 points for the season and only schedule non one-point events. I can't imagine too many ADs going along with it, especially in the OCC, but that is the case.

So if GMHS wanted to, it could have a 2015-2016 schedule like this...

    12/05:
    12/12: Logan Inv. (+2)
12/19: The Varsity Tournament hosted by GMHS (+2)
    12/28 & 29: Marion Harding Winter Classic (+3)
    01/09: Kevin Cleveland Memorial (+2)
    01/15 & 16: LH Hornet Invite (+3)
    01/31: The Cruiser Invitational (+2)
    02/06: St. Charles Tournament (+2)
    02/20: Sectionals

    We won't. But we could.

As long as you include the KCM, it's all good.

I agree with Tony. Why not have both? Duals and the tournament? Is that too much to ask for? At least OCC, could have awards for the Capital, Ohio, Cardinal etc and then ALL-OCC.
In all seriousness though, who would want to host this? Because this would honestly need to be in a bigger facility then the norm.

I am for this... Maybe get the petition going!!

I'm all for doing both duals and a tournament, just don't make the duals mandatory within the league when you're going to wrestle them again in the tournament. Either give 100% free reign to schedule whomever wherever in whatever league, or do a combination of open duals and inter-division.
