Central District All Star Selection Meeting Question

Great seeing some old, familiar faces last night and some good wrestling. Kudos to those running the show. I think they kept things humming along.

Notables for me were the following:

    Triansue won and looked great.

    Grant looked very strong.

Demas got a helluva scare early but prevailed 15-9.

Rooney wrestled at 52 and won.

    Rahmani lost.

Hinkle won, looked good, and is filling out his tall frame.

Ford won a close one at 220.

Archer got blanked at HWT by the SC 220 from Jon Alder. 1-0 maybe?

Teacher looked strong in decisioning Van Meter at HWT.
  • wrestlingjunkie
Campbell vs Abduljelil was 1-1 but fun to watch
Brusco looks really solid at 138 won with a pin
Tanner Miller turned it up late and looked very good
Cody Notestine looks really tough at 145 - he is going to have a good year
Martinez vs Leib was fun - Martinez controlled that match
Once Demas got out of an early pickle he looked like Dom and turned it up
Teacher looked quick and wrestled well

I'll try to get the results posted today and will start uploading videos as well.

Summit Rd campus was ok, but I still prefer Gahanna....maybe just set in my ways! lol

A lot of good wrestling, but I'd like to see a little more...maybe go conso 1-2-2??

Campbell v Abduljelil had a lot of action and both should do well this year
Demas getting caught in a cradle caused the gym to erupt....he recovered and dominated the rest of the match
Price from Granville is solid and beating Rahmani wasn't a surprise to me
I'm partial to the big fellas, so seeing Caldwell at HWT was a pleasant surprise...kid has improved each and every year
Teacher from CC...HS looked good, but the best is yet to come

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and let the FUN & EXCITEMENT of wrestling season begin!! : thumbup:

I could be wrong, but I think the 1-1-1 format is OHSAA scrimmage/preview rules
  • It is what it is
I know previews are 1-1-1, but the earliest preview date is the 28th, so is the All-Star meet considered a scrimmage? If so, then can't we do what we want as long as we stay within the 3 hour time limit? I really don't know......ahem, Mighty Cruiser, what say you?!

Caldwell didn't look that big. Does he intend to stay at HWT?
  • cruiser_96
I'm not at that level. I've always been told that Hank Zaborniak stated that it's the week of such and such a date. Every year they mean to change the wording but they never do.

There are a few things I wouldn't mind offering as a change for our all-star meet but the match time isn't one of them. I'm as eager as the next guy but the standard rule of "leave them wanting more" is in play. 1-1-1 is fine by me.

I do know this...from the moment I left my house on Tuesday until I layed my head down that night, I was full throttle. Shirts, awards, program, match-ups, emails, text messages, weigh-ins, ceremonies, pictures, etc. ...buh! A man could wear down after all of that.

The season is upon us, ladies and gentlemen! Let's do this!!!!!!!!

Looked to be 235-240. idk what he plans to do, but the best HWT's, imo, are the mobile 240-250 guys.

    Cruiser any videos up yet?

Uploading now. Usually takes a while. Easiest to let it work while I'm resting. Hopefully no dialogue box opens with a "Yes" or "No" click awaiting!!!

I made sure they were set to "Public" and that they were made available after upload completion. Hopefully it works.

    Job well done Cruiser!!!!

Vids are up on the ITC YouTube channel. Since I don't have the link to copy and paste here, A) someone can in the next post, and B) for now, go to the ITC website and go to the tab dubbed "YouTube Channel".

Im glad these are up now. Today, at family gatherings, the whole family can gatger around a computer or their own personal electronic device and watch their "Little Billy" compete!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Not sure I'd agree. The HWT brackets at state last year were largely dominated by guys at the upper end of the 285 threshold. Patch Garren might be an exception to the rule, though even he fell short last year. Archer was a mobile 240 district champ and made a quick 0-2 exit at state last year and the 4 DI finalists were over 275. At DII-DIII, guys like Hanzel and Sharp were behemoths. Billy Miller wasn't a giant, but I trust he was well above 235. Not trying to argue, and what is important is what the DII field looks like at State. If the DII HWT field looks thin, maybe he'll do fine. If he was DI, he'd never beat guys like Vough or Bonner who are both tipping he scales at 280+.
  • It is what it is
I never argue, lol, just state my opinion. I also value other opinions and agree that what the field looks like is always a consideration. If it were me, I'd have him go 220, where I think he wins state again. I believe in the saying, "BIGGER is BETTER", but only when the "bigger" is talented and skilled...a lot of "huge" guys have trouble with speed and technique. I just really like the kid, he had several good battles with one of our wrestlers 2 years ago, and wish him the best!

Happy Thanksgiving to ALL! : thumbup:

    Noted and changed. Thank you.

Awesome night of wrestling. I was impressed with how much Notestine has improved. Fitzgerald looked great as well. I am shocked at how big staten has gotten!!! Wrestle fat and happy and he will have a much better season. The kid looked like skeletor last year.

My only beef is..... Why do we have the "central District" all star meet at the furthest point of te district lol. We should host this at Whetstone or East High or some where that is a more central location. Not in licking county. How do we decide where it is held???

The board actually put it out to the schools to see who was able and willing to host this year. The only ones I remember being able to host that night were Reynoldsburg, Newark, and Fredericktown. Of those, Reynoldsburg was the better choice as far as travel goes in my opinion.
  • USMCdevil2005
Oh yes for sure. I am not complaining anymore about it being at marysville lol.
  • USMCdevil2005
On another note.... Where was the Marcus Williamson kid from Westerville South at??? He wa 6th in the district last year as a freshman at 160. Dropped his go to bout to McCafferty 6-5 UTB1
